Real Madrid sweeps the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards
Real Madrid was named Club of the Year, Vinicius won Best Forward and Best Men’s Player at this evening’s gala in Dubai.
For yet another year, Real Madrid emerged victorious from the Globe Soccer Awards ceremony, held in Dubai. The Spanish giants won five competitions in a highly productive year - La Liga, the Champions League, Spanish and European Super Cups and more recently, the Intercontinental Cup.
For those achievements, Madrid swept the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards which celebrated its fifteenth edition at the five-star Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai.
Florentino Pérez received the Best President award, while Carlo Ancelotti, Thibaut Courtois, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius were also recognized. Bellingham and Vinicius won in two different categories.
What awards did Real Madrid win at the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards Ceremony?
Real Madrid was chosen as the Best International Club 2024 for the five trophies won during the past 12 months. José Ángel Sánchez was designated to collect the award on the club’s behalf: “There are no secrets. You have to work hard. You have to adapt to changes and remain loyal to the values of the club,” explained the Real Madrid general manager when asked about the secret to Madrid’s success.
Florentino Pérez was crowned the Best President of All Time. The Real Madrid president sent a message of thanks via video link: “Since I became president of Real Madrid in 2000, I have always said that it is a great honor to be at the head of the most beloved and admired sporting institution in the world. And everything I have done is work to ensure that this club continues to be in the place it deserves due to its history and what it represents for millions of people around the world.
“I would also like to thank them for the award given to Real Madrid for what they have achieved in a year that has once again been historic and unforgettable for all Madrid fans. This year will be remembered for the fifteenth European Cup, a year in which our team has won five titles: the Champions League, La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup, the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, which is our ninth world champion title.”
“This award is therefore also for our players, for our coach and for all those who are part of Real Madrid and, of course, for a fan base that already has more than 600 million followers on social media and is the best in the world. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you very much.”
Carlo Ancelotti was chosen as the Best Coach of the Season. Like Florentino Pérez, the Italian coach sent a video message to express his gratitude: “I am sorry I cannot be with you tonight. Thank you very much for this award, it is a great honour. It has been a fantastic year. I want to thank my club and my players and we hope to fight and compete just as much next season. Thank you.”
Courtois, Vinicius and Bellingham in Dubai
Those who did attend the ceremony included Thibaut Courtois (who participated alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in an entertaining debate on current football events), Vinicius and Jude Bellingham.
The goalkeeper won another Career Award, something that Rio Ferdinand and Neymar also achieved: “I want to thank Globe Soccer, my wife, my children, my teammates... Last year was very challenging for me because of the injury, but there is still Courtois to give,” said the Belgian before making way for his teammates.
The first was Jude Bellingham, who won the award for Best Midfielder of the Year and the Maradona Award:
“I expected to win titles with Real Madrid. I signed for the best club in the world. I have the best teammates and the best coaching staff. There is hunger to win more. Five titles in one year is good, but we want to continue for many years with this generation and continue making history with Real Madrid. My teammates helped me adapt, they accepted me. Entering a locker room with so many stars and only speaking English is difficult, but they made it easy for me. I can’t choose one, everyone helped me. We finished the year very well. There were games in which we could have done better but things are going well. We are going for everything in 2025,” he said in his speech.
The Maradona Award recognizes young talents who are forging their future in the world of football.
For his part, Vinicius won the Best Forward of the Year and Best Player of the Year awards: “I am very happy to receive this award alongside many great players. It has taken me a lot of work to get here and I thank everyone who has been by my side. I represent many children who grew up playing on the street and it has helped me a lot to get to where I am today.”
Cristiano Ronaldo, who took home the award for best footballer in the Middle East, as well as the honorary award for Top Scorer of All Time, did not forget the Brazilian: “I like being compared to me, in the way I shoot, in the body. Bellingham, Lamine, Vinicius... who deserved to have won the Ballon d’Or. He won the Champions League and the performance he had in the final. That’s why I believe more in these awards”, something that the Rio de Janeiro native was grateful for.
“My idol is Cristiano. It is an honor to have heard those words. If Cristiano says it, I believe it. Many thanks to my teammates, family, Flamengo, the Brazilian national team, Real Madrid. I wish you a happy 2025.”
Also receiving awards in Dubai this evening were Alessandro del Piero, Rio Ferdinand and Neymar, all in the running; Lamine Yamal, Best Emerging Player; the representative Jorge Mendes; Alba Mellado and Nadir Louah, participants in the Kings League (their award was presented to them by Gerard Piqué), Olympiacos (breakthrough team); Jorge Jesus (Best Coach in the Middle East) and Piero Ausilio (Best Sporting Director).
