Real Madrid switch Vallejo’s squad number... again!
The central defender, who had ceded the No.5 to Jude Bellingham and taken the No.24... will now wear No.25 with Güler set to take that number.
Whenever Real Madrid have a problem with numbers, at least they have Jesús Vallejo to help them out. The central defender’s future remains uncertain but for now, he is still a Real Madrid player and one who has accommodated the club when it comes to the most recent arrivals.
The club has just signed Arda Güler - beating Barcelona to the promising teenage midfielder. The only downside is what squad number to designate as the only available numbers are No.9 and No.25. The club considered the possibility of presenting him tomorrow without a squad number then wait for Odriozola’s departure (the player has agreed to move on), so that he could pick up the No.16. But while Odriozola is still looking for a new club, that doesn’t seem the most practical solution.
Another option for Güler is the No.24 - which belongs to Vallejo! The central defender appears on the club’s official website with his new squad number which he only recently changed, after he kindly ceded his old No.5 to Jude Bellingham, who in turn, made sure he thanked him during his presentation.
Güler will be unveiled in Valdebebas tomorrow at midday. It will be the usual arrangement - first, the president will speak in the assembly hall, then the player, who will then pose with his new shirt. In the absence of official confirmation, it points to being he No.24... Vallejo’s number. All of this will take place in private, followed by the press conference, in which Güler himself, perhaps, will confirm that he has spoken with Vallejo -as Bellingham did - and agree to cede his number. Or not. What is certain is that a month ago, Vallejo wore the No.5, just a few hours ago he was the No.24 and now he’s the No.25.
