Real Madrid target Bastoni staying put… unless the right offer arrives
“If a club appeared that satisfied both Inter and the player, we could talk,” says his agent. The centre-back is on Mourinho’s list.
Alessandro Bastoni’s agent just sent a message loud enough for every major club to hear — including José Mourinho’s Real Madrid. Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Tullio Tinti used a mix of firmness and flexibility when discussing the Inter center‑back’s future.
On one hand, the hard line: Bastoni has two years left on his Inter contract, he “loves the club,” and he’s not thinking about leaving. But then came the opening that really matters: if a club appears that satisfies both Inter and the player, “we can talk.” For now, Tinti insists there’s no real negotiation underway and that Bastoni has “never seriously considered leaving Italy.”
Madrid interest exists — but no move yet
Despite Bastoni being high on Mourinho’s list, Real Madrid hasn’t made a formal approach. And nothing will happen until someone leaves. That applies to both positions Mourinho wants to reinforce: a center‑back and a defensive midfielder.
Right now, Madrid has five center‑backs:
- Ibrahima Konaté (27)
- Dean Huijsen (21)
- Antonio Rüdiger (33)
- Pablo Asencio (23)
- Éder Militão (28)
Only four are available. Militão is recovering from a proximal biceps femoris tendon tear and won’t return until December. For Madrid to sign another center‑back, someone must leave — and with Rüdiger freshly renewed, all eyes fall on Asencio. But like Camavinga, he has told the club he wants to stay and prove himself to Mourinho.
Bastoni remains an option until the final day
If the squad picture changes, Bastoni will stay on Madrid’s radar until the window closes. Mourinho values his physicality, ball‑playing ability, and elite experience: three Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia wins, three Supercoppa trophies, and the Euro 2020 title with Italy.
Inter, for its part, is signaling openness. Even though Bastoni is crucial for manager Cristian Chivu, the club would consider selling if a strong offer arrives. Transfermarkt lists his market value at €65 million, and Inter’s asking price is around €70 million (about $76 million).
Bastoni is under contract until 2028 and earns $6 million net per year.
A complication off the field
In recent months, Bastoni has been linked to a sexual‑misconduct investigation involving events from 2020, when he was 21. The case is now in the hands of Italian authorities. If the situation remains unresolved, it could cool Madrid’s interest despite the otherwise smooth relationship between the clubs — strengthened by the Dumfries transfer and Inter’s recent visit to the Bernabéu for the Classic Match.
