Real Madrid - Valencia: as it heppaned

Real Madrid rounder off their week of three games at home with an emphatic win over Valencia and Los Blancos now move within two points of leaders Girona.

After a tense 0-0 draw with Rayo last Sunday, Madrid secured a berth in the Round of 16 in the Champions League on Wednesday with a win over Sporting Braga.

Tonight's win was the most complete game of the three from Carlo Ancelotti's side with a Dani Carvajal goal in the third minute getting things off with a bang.

Valencia eventually found their rhythm and Hugo Duro missed two wonderful chances for the men in orange to secure a foothold but just as the break beckoned, Vini Jr. chested home to put the home side in the driving seat.

The contest essentially ended in a two minute spell with the Brazilian duo on target again in the 48th and 49th minutes as Valencia rolled over.

Late goals from Rodrygo and a consolation from Duro for Valencia rounded off a comfortable night for Los Blancos at home as the league breaks now for the international window.

Last VCF-Real Madrid meeting

The last time both clubs met was at the tail-end of the 2022-23 season with the game overshadowed by racist chants aimed by some of the home fans at Mestalla with the subsequent images gaining global headlines and the action prompting LaLiga to take action.

The Brazilian remains a target for racist fans at grounds sadly but finally the governing bodies have started to take steps in trying to tackle racism that blights too many LaLiga grounds.

Bellingham ruled out of match against Valencia

Jude Bellingham has not recovered in time to play for Real Madrid against Valencia tonight. His left shoulder is still in pain after injuring it in the scoreless draw with Rayo Vallecano last Sunday.

The England international is not at 100% and Real Madrid have decided not to force him against Los Che. The big question now is whether he will play for England during the upcoming international break. He has been called up by Gareth Southgate, but as far as Madrid are concerned, he won’t play with them again until Sunday 26 November, when they travel to take on Cádiz.

as.com

Valencia got their campaign off to a flying start with victories against Sevilla and Las Palmas but since then, they’ve been erratic to put it mildly. Rubén Baraja’s side have shown they are equally as capable of thrashing Atlético 3-0 as they are losing or drawing against the teams in the bottom half of the table. That inconsistency is partly a rollover from last season, when the team just escaped the drop, drawing both of their last two games.

The squad has changed a lot since then - Baraja has been drafting in younger players with the average age of his squad now at a very youthful 25. Four players graduated from the reserves over the summer: Javi Guerra (20), Diego López (21), Alberto Marí (22) and Fran Pérez (21) - all of whom have been given regular playing time, apart from Marí, the top scorer in pre-season, who underwent surgery in August after suffering a quad tear.

as.com

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid side have looked consistent and stable since the campaign started, dropping points on just three occasions, twice on the road (Atleti in the derby and Sevilla) and once at home. Last weekend’s stalemate against Rayo was the first time that Los Blancos have failed to score in a game this season...

The Italian coach will be hoping more from a side who had little trouble putting three past Braga midweek rather than the side who toiled last Sunday against Rayo.
