REAL MADRID
Real Madrid’s possible starting XI against Union Berlin in the UEFA Champions League
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Lucas Vázquez and Modric will start as Madrid debut in their favourite competition.
On the eve of Real Madrid’s first game in the 23/24 UEFA Champions League, boss Carlo Ancelotti was handed a new injury worry: Carvajal will not be at the coach’s disposal for the game against Union Berlin, when the famous anthem is set to ring around the Santiago Bernabéu once again.
The full-back will not be available to play against the German opponents due to a muscular injury in his right leg that will also force him to miss Sunday’s Derbi Madrieño at the Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano. The absence of the full-back gives Ancelotti no choice but to make a change to the eleven. The Madrid coach, in his pre-game press duties, cleared up the doubt as to whether Lucas Vázquez or Nacho could fill the vacancy at right back and confirmed that the starting position will go to the Galician.
Who will play for Real Madrid against Union Berlin?
As Ancelotti loses his starting right back, he has recovered players on the other side: Mendy, who got injured on the tour of the United States, is in the squad for the first time this season. Also on the list is Ceballos, who made the bench in the LaLiga win over Real Sociedad, but did not make an appearance on the field.
The physio room continues to have high (and illustrious) levels of occupancy: Courtois, Militão, Vinicius and Arda Güler, in addition to the aforementioned Carvajal, will not be ready to play at this start of the Champions League campaign. The Turk, according to Ancelotti, will train with the group as of next Monday.
Real Madrid’s possible starting lineup against Union Berlin
Lucas Vázquez’s role was not the only clue that Ancelotti gave on his eleven. He also announced that Modric will start the game in the middle of the pitch after missing out against La Real. The other centre-back position, as well as who will play alongside Luka, remain the only major question marks.
The possible eleven that Real Madrid can present in its debut in this Champions League against Unión Berlin is the following:
Kepa; Lucas Vázquez, Rüdiger/Nacho, Alaba, Fran García; Valverde/Kroos, Camavinga, Modric; Bellingham; Joselu and Rodrygo. Ancelotti has called up 21 players for the match, with three Castilla players involved: Lucas Cañizares, Vinicius Tobias and Gonzalo. The squad also includes Lunin, Mendy, Tchouaméni, Ceballos and Brahim.
