Liga MX side Club América have suffered a huge injury to a key player: Néstor Araujo, the club have confirmed, has torn a ligament in his right knee, and will be out for the rest of the season.

Through their social media channels, Las Águilas made public the news on the defender’s injury: “Club América report that Néstor Araujo has suffered a torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee. The player is undergoing evaluation to determine the necessary treatment.”

How long will he be out for?

Araujo’s injury is serious and he will be taking his recovery process step by step in order to get back to match fitness in the correct way. Such a devastating injury will certainly see him out of the side for the entirety of the season. Club América are on the charge to the top of the table and recently thrashed Chivas at the Estadio Azteca.

What is Araujo’s record with América?

America signed Araujo in July 2022 from Spanish side Celta Vigo after paying a sum of €3 million. However, the player has fallen far short of expectations due to both his playing level and a series of recurring injuries. As a result, in total, he has played just 35 games, starting 28 he has contributed two assists. As for the Apertura 2023, Araujo has only played twice, and that total is set to stay that way.
