Real Madrid’s winger, Vinicius Jr, has returned to the training pitch to continue his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained while on international duty with the Brazilian national team.

While the player did not take part in the group session carried out by the rest of the squad, it was the first time since his injury that the player has been seen out on the pitch, with the winger even working with a football at his feet.

Vini Jr injury different to the last time

Vinicius Jr sustained a torn hamstring on November 17 in Brazil’s game against Colombia. The winger was taken off early and flew immediately back to the Spanish capital, where tests diagnosed the worst news for the club and player, who was ruled out for two and a half months.

Vinicius, has played 13 games for the LaLiga side this season, scoring 6 goals and getting 3 assists. He also missed an entire month of football earlier in the year, although Madrid were keen to point out that the issue then was in his other leg and has nothing to do with this current physical problem.

When will Vini Jr return?

Dr. González, a medical specialist, was consulted when the news of Vini Jr’s injury was revealed, and said that the issue was indeed “worrying”. “The fact that the distal tendon is affected is something we have to be very careful with,” he said. “If it’s a small injury, I estimate two and a half months out. But if it is more serious, the player is in danger of undergoing surgery. The same thing happened to Ousmane Dembélé, an injury to the biceps femoris and the insertion of the distal tendon was affected, which caused him a lot of problems. Let’s hope that Vinícius’ injury is a minor one.”

Real Madrid expect Vinicius Jr to be back in action for the team in 2024, meaning that there is still some time to go before we see him link up with Rodrygo once again.

Real Madrid’s next game is against Real Betis and will be played on Saturday, December 9, with kick off at 10.15 a.m. ET / 7.15 a.m. PT.
