Report: Carlos Vela to extend his contract with Los Angeles FC
After months of negotiations it appears that the Mexican international will extend his stay in Major League Soccer at least one more season.
Carlos Vela and Los Angeles Football Club are closing in on a new deal before he becomes a free agent in the summer. According to multiple reports, the Mexican international and LAFC are about to reach a new deal after months of negotiations and the new deal will run at least through the 2023 MLS regular season.
Vela wants to win the MLS Cup with LAFC
The 33-year-old has been the face of the club since the inaugural campaign and in 2019 he broke all individual records, winning the golden boot and named the Most Valuable Player. Carlos Vela suffered a string of serious injuries in the past two seasons that made the people in charge at LAFC hesitant about extending his contract.
But the former Arsenal ace has been healthy in the first seven games of the campaign and a lot of the success of LAFC depends on his performances. Vela has scored four goals and provided seven assists in the season and he is looking better each game.
Also the LAFC captain said at the end of the 2021 regular season that he wanted revenge this year and he came to the league to win the MLS Cup. When healthy, the Mexican has proven to be the best player in Major League Soccer and it seems he will continue to make a run for the trophy at least until 2023.
