Ricardo Pepi didn’t meet expectations during first months with Augsburg
The United States men’s national team star made 11 appearances in his first season with the Bundesliga side but was unable to score.
Ricardo Pepi moved to the Bundesliga during the January transfer window and immediately was one of the players to watch with Augsburg. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out as expected and the United States international didn’t meet the expectations in his first season in Germany’s top flight.
Ricardo Pepi’s goal scoring drought extended
The last time the former FC Dallas striker scored a goal was with the United States men’s national team during the FIFA international break of October 2021. Ricardo Pepi scored a brace in the United States 2-0 win over Jamaica on 7 October 2021 in the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Since then, the 19-year-old has failed to find the back of the net for club and country. Pepi made 11 appearances for Augsburg this season and only four were as a starter. He was left on the bench for five games and the only good news is that Augsburg managed to avoid relegation.
Pepi played for a total of 475 minutes with the Bundesliga side and he will need to improve if he wants to earn a starting role next campaign. The teenager is also aware that if he is unable to improve in the first few months of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season, he could be left out of the final roster that will travel to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup in November.
