Robert Lewandowski on Lamine Yamal incident: “It was a total accident”
The Barça striker wanted to clear up what happened with Lamine Yamal on Sunday.
Robert Lewandowski has spoken about his gesture towards Lamine Yamal in the game between Barcelona and Alavés on Sunday. The Polish striker scored a brace to earn Barça a vital three points and discussed the incident on Monday. “Honestly, there’s not much to comment on because it was a total accident. As far as my relationship with him is concerned, I have helped him many times and given him advice, even in this game. It’s normal to say or shout something on the pitch. The whole situation is a total accident,” Lewandowski said when questioned about the incident with the promising Spanish forward.
International duty with Poland
Lewandowski is currently on international duty with his national team for their vital match against the Czech Republic that will decide whether or not they will play at the European Championship in 2024. Lewandowski added that he is feeling more confident after a poor run with the Blaugrana. “In terms of my physical condition, I felt good against Alavés. My confidence on the pitch was also completely different. Goals always give you peace of mind and motivation especially because in the last few games I haven’t had many chances. I hope that now I will score regularly and get chances,” he continued.
Poland need to beat the Czech Republic and hope for favourable results in other games. “I know that the chances of direct qualification are not great, but for us, the most important thing at the moment is the match against the Czech Republic and winning it. We know where we are, what we need to improve and what we need to focus on.”
