Rogelio Funes Mori: I am eligible, I want to be in the Mexican National Team
Rogelio Funes Mori, who was born in Argentina yet has scored goals for Mexico, recently expressed his wish to play for El Tri once again.
Rogelio Funes Mori, CF Monterrey’s attacking star, has the hope of one day playing for Mexico once again.
The forward has not been a part of a Mexico squad since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar - a colossal failure for El Tri - back when current Inter Miami boss Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino was the manager of the side.
“I am eligible for selection, I continue to train, I keep on doing things so that at some point [I can get a call up]. You never know what could happen, I still want to be in the [Mexican] National Team, said the attacker.
Funes Mori in goalscoring form
Recently, the 32-year-old came back from injury and has not stopped firing for Monterrey: he scored a double against Juárez, which were his 156th and 157th goals in the blue and white shirt.
“I always work hard to to do the best for myself, he said, “to be in good form, sometimes when things don’t go right, I don’t beat myself up about it”.
“Obviously hard work has rewards, sooner or later, so I always work hard to do the right thing, to keep on growing.”
‘Clásicos are always great to play in’
Monterrey will arrive at the friendly Clásico Regio against Tigres with a threadbare squad given the various injuries and international call ups they have received. However, Funes Mori will be able to participate and said that there is no excuse not to go for the win in the game and give a reward to their loyal fans.
“This Clásico was confirmed a while ago, we are going at it with what we have, it’s a wonderful game and the Clásicos are always great to play in. For some of the players it will be their first one, they will soon know what a Clásico is in the US, Houston, where our fans always follow us a lot, I think it will be beautiful”, he said.
