Former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up on the club’s current situation and how Ruben Amorim can fix it.

Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, where the Al Nassr forward was named Best Middle East Player of 2024, Ronaldo said Amorim “did a fantastic job in Portugal with my (club) Sporting”.

Manchester United’s form is disastrous: only Southampton, bottom of the Premier League, have lost more games among Premier League teams (6) in all competitions than them.

Added to that, after the first 18 rounds of the season, the team are in 14th place, closer to the relegation places (8 points above) than to the Champions League places (11 points behind).

Ronaldo hopes Amorim can turn Manchester United around

“But the Premier League is a different beast, the most competitive league in the world. I knew that it would be tough and they will continue the storm. But the storm will finish and the sun will rise.

Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Sporting CP in 2003; 6 years on, after dominating the league, he sealed a world-record move to Real Madrid. He rejoined the English club in 2021 from Juventus before departing for Saudi Arabia. In total, he played 346 times for Manchester United, scoring 145 goals.

“They need, I said this one year and a half ago, and I will continue to say it: The problem is not the coaches, it’s like... I always give this example... it’s like an aquarium.

‘If you have the fish inside and he’s sick and you take him out and you fix the problem and you put him again in an aquarium you will be sick again. The problem of Manchester United is the same. The problem is not always the coach. It’s much more than that."

Fingers crossed, it will be good with him and I hope the best for Manchester United because it is a club I still love”, Ronaldo concluded.
