Ronaldo reveals his top picks to manage Brazil
The Brazil legend has given a list of names of possible successors to Tite following an early exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Ronaldo is one of the biggest players to ever wear the Brazil jersey and he was part of the squad that won the last World Cup for the Seleçao in 2002. The legendary striker gave his opinion on who should manage the team following the successful six-year tenure of Tite after Brazil suffered an early exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Croatia in the quarter-finals.
List of candidates for Ronaldo
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is in search of the successor to the 61-year-old head coach as they start preparing for the 2024 Copa América and the start of the new World Cup cycle. Ronaldo gave a list of candidates that could take over the managerial job and aim to win the World Cup in 2026.
“There are a lot of amazing names that would do a lot of good. [Carlo] Ancelotti, Abel [Ferreira], from Palmeiras, [José] Mourinho, from Roma...They are incredible names. All of them have contracts. I don’t know what the CBF will do, but my opinion is that it would support a foreign name,” said Ronaldo during an interview with Globo.
“The Brazilian options, I don’t see many. What I wanted to say is that Fernando Diniz is one of the Brazilian names that I like the most. Anyway, before the coach’s announcement, the CBF will still have other announcements to make. The coach’s choice comes from a philosophy of how the CBF board or the president wants the team to play. Based on this concept that the Seleçao chooses, it is possible to look for the most suitable profiles for this game.”
Ronaldo was also asked about the possibility of Pep Guardiola taking over the managerial job with the Brazil national team and he confirmed that the CBF tried to hire him in the past. Unfortunately, the Spanish manager decided to extend his stay with Manchester City until 2025.
“There was interest in Guardiola; it was discussed with Guardiola’s coaching staff, but he preferred to renew his contract with City,”said Ronaldo on his YouTube channel. “Perhaps it would be difficult for the CBF to reach an agreement; he is the highest-paid coach in the world.”
