Ryan Reynolds demands worn item from Wrexham hero Foster

The Hollywood owner interrupted the post-promotion-winning press conference to grab the goalkeeper’s jersey.

It was a script that even Hollywood may have ignored but Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are living the dream and were at a loss for words as thousands of Wrexham supporters transformed the Racecourse Ground into the largest after-party in Wales on Saturday. The club, which Reynolds and McElhenney (make sure you know how to say his name) acquired in November 2020, had returned to the English Football League as champions of the fifth tier, after struggling for years.

How Wrexham got promoted?

The night was full of drama -- which we brought you live -- with Boreham Wood scoring in the first minute, but Wrexham triumphed 3-1, and the A-list owners were in the middle of the festivities, hugging players and wiping away tears of joy. Reynolds spoke afterwards and admitted that he was still a little speechless and that he could not believe what had happened that night. McElhenney concurred with Reynolds and stated that it was most important to them to feel the town’s vibe.

For Wrexham, it was a moment of catharsis and celebration. The club had been relegated from League Two in 2008 but was now returning with a record number of points and as champions with a game to spare. Notts County, which came close behind Wrexham, will be the favorites to join them in the fourth tier after the playoffs. Reynolds stated that Notts County was excellent and deserved to go up, and he and McElhenney are rooting for them to play in League Two next year.

Reynolds claims Foster’s ‘sweaty’ shirt

In another unscripted but beautifully timed interaction, the Deadpool star interrupted the post-match press conference to demand his hero goalkeeper’s shirt, the one worn during the game that clinched promotion.

“Foster, Foster. Jersey, now,” he began. And after Ben handed it over, giving it a little sniff test on the way, someone in the amused crowd asked if Reynolds planned to sell it on eBay. Rarely short of a quip, the multi-millionaire actor replied.

“Listen, I work in show business. We fall on hard times sometimes.”
