Santiago Giménez is experiencing a dream moment in his first season in European football. Feyenoord’s Mexican striker has become one of the most important players for the team who currently top the Eredivisie, wight points clear of Ajax, their nearest rivals.

One man is playing a big part in Bebote’s success in the Netherlands - Robin van Persie. The legendary Dutch striker who shone at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil as well as in the Premier League with Arsenal and Manchester United is Giménez’s coach at Feyenoord.

Goals in Holland

In 35 games with the Eredivisie club, across three competitions (league, Europa League and KNVB Beker) Giménez has scored 16 goals and given out three assists to his team mates. Those figures have enabled the Mexican forward to secure a first-choice starting role ahead of Brazilian Danilo. He is also the top scorer in Arne Slot’s squad.

As if that were not enough, Feyenoord is dreaming of winning the treble this season. Apart from their lead at the top of the Eredivisie table, the team has made it as far as the semi-finals of the KNVB Beker (where they will meet an Ajax side featuring Mexicans Edson Álvarez and Jorge Sánchez) and they also through to the quarter finals of the Europa League, in which they will face Jose Mourinho’s Roma. A dream season so far for Bebote which can only get better.
