Senegal’s all-out challenge to CAF after the AFCON scandal
Amid the conflict over determining the champion of the Africa Cup of Nations, the national football federation has officially announced the title celebration event.

The dispute between the Senegalese Football Federation and the Confederation of African Football continues to escalate, with no immediate resolution in sight. The latest development comes from the Senegalese federation itself, which has announced a commemorative event for the title won on 18 January, despite the trophy later being awarded to Morocco following legal challenges.
From the outset of the conflict, as expected, the Lions of Teranga have vehemently rejected the African governing body’s decision. The federation has opted for legal action to defend its position, maintaining its status as champion while attempting to overturn a ruling it considers unjust.
In that context, the latest decision has been to proceed with the celebration event on home soil. The event will take place on 28 March at the Stade de France, coinciding with the friendly match against the Peruvian national team. The federation promoted the event through its official channels with a clear message: “While we wait for this to be finalised, get your tickets and join the African champions at the Stade de France on 28 March. The African diaspora will be celebrated in an event packed with football and entertainment.”
The statement leaves little doubt about Senegal’s position. The federation continues to present itself as the “African champion”, and the tournament trophy appears in the promotional image, reinforcing its intention to keep it in its custody at least until that date. It is the latest chapter in a dispute that continues to fuel controversy surrounding the most recent Africa Cup of Nations final.
