Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton join Chelsea takeover bid
Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton have joined a consortium involving Sir Martin Broughton, Sebastian Coe and John Terry in a bid to buy Chelsea FC
Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams could form part of a new board at Chelsea if a bid to assume control of the Premier League club the Formula 1 star and the 23-times Grand Slam champion have allied themselves to is successful. Hamilton and Williams have joined forces with Sir Martin Broughton, who was previously the chairman of Liverpool, and will both invest around €12 million if the takeover proposal bears fruit, according to Sky Sport.
There are two rival bids to assume control of Chelsea following the departure of Roman Abramovich in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, headed up by LA Dodgers owner Todd Boehly and Stephen Pagliuca, who owns Serie A side Atalanta and the Boston Celtics.
John Terry and Lord Coe also in on Broughton bid
Also involved in the bid led by Broughton are former Chelsea and England captain John Terry, Lord Sebastian Coe, president of World Athletics, as well as David Blitzer and Josh Harris, American investors who also hold a stake in Crystal Palace. If the Broughton bid is successful, Blitzer and Harris would be required to relinquish their stakes in Palace to avoid a conflict of interest.
