Sergiño Dest’s future remains up in the air
The USMNT full-back played in all three of Barcelona’s friendlies in the United States.
Barcelona are willing to listen to offers in the region of $11 million for right-back Sergino Dest, The Athletic are reporting.
The USMNT full-back played in all three of Barcelona’s friendlies in the United States, featuring in the 5-3 defeat to Arsenal, and coming off the bench in the victories over Real Madrid and AC Milan.
He was replaced by club captain Sergi Roberto at half-time in the loss to Mikel Arteta’s side at the SoFi stadium in California, and only played 19 minutes against Real Madrid and 26 minutes in the victory over Milan, where he failed to impress on loan last season.
He featured on just eight occasions in Serie A and in 635 minutes on the pitch with Stefano Pioli’s team, failed to register any goals or assists. Milan decided to not exercise their buy option for the player.
Talks with Xavi
The 22-year-old’s deal with the LaLiga champions runs until 2025. Last month Dest told The Athletic he saw his future at Barcelona, explaining that he had been told by head coach Xavi that he would get another chance.
“I don’t want to give too much information about what we discussed, but at the end of the day (Xavi) told me: ‘OK, I’ll give you a fair chance to prove yourself.’ So that’s what it is at the moment,” the former Ajax man said in an interview.
“He told me: ‘I think you have qualities but it’s up to you, you have to show me.’ And I fully agree.”I feel that with what happened last season with me, I have to have a fast start. I’m here to prove myself.
Dest has previously been linked with a move to Bundesliga side Union Berlin and could now be set to follow Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba out of the club if the right offer comes in.
