Shock death sees Barcelona vs Osasuna game postponed

The game between FC Barcelona and Osasuna was suspended just minutes before kick-off due to the death of a member of the medical staff.

Why was Barcelona vs Osasuna postponed?

In the build-up to the game, reports emerged that someone close to the playing squad had passed away, news which caused the players to ask for the game to be called off.

Spanish TV broadcaster DAZN confirmed soon after that the person in question was a member of the Barcelona first team medical staff.

Barcelona release statement:

FC Barcelona is deeply saddened to announce the passing of first-team doctor Carles Miñarro García this evening.

For this reason, the match between FC Barcelona and CA Osasuna has been postponed to a later date.

The FC Barcelona Board of Directors and all staff extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

When will the Barcelona vs Osasuna game be played?

Both Osasuna and LaLiga also released statements on the matter, with the competition stating that a new date will be organised in the near future.

At the time of writing, there is no date that has been singled out as a potential time to play the fixture. Protocol says that since both LaLiga and the Spanish Football Federation invoked Article 262 of the rulebook, suspending a game for force majeure, a judge must decide when the match is to be played.
