Shortlist emerges of possible Paunovic replacements at Chivas

It’s widely anticipated that the Serbian coach will leave the club and join Almeria in Spain after this weekend’s Clasico as the Sacred Flock face Atlas.

It’s been a tense week at Guadalajara as the club still search for a win, having to settle for a draw at Toluca. Three players have also been sidelined for an indiscipline incident and it’s expected that Veljko Paunovic will join UD Almeria as head coach after this weekend’s Clasico Tapatio as Chivas face Atlas.

As speculation over the Serbian’s coach departure grows, candidates for the bench at the Akron Stadium are emerging.

‘Chepo’ de la Torre

De La Torre could be inline for a return to Chivas for the third time (he oversaw an Apertura win in 2006 and saved the side from relegation in 2015). José Manuel ‘Chepo’ from La Torre has already publicly stated said he is free to take charge of the club. “There is more talk outside the field about Guadalajara, I have always been available” declared the Mexican coach for the Xilakillers program.

Ricardo Ferretti, Diego Cocca, Gustavo Matosas and Diego Alonso

The other four candidates being touted as potential replacements are all currently without a club but all four have proven track records in Mexican soccer. Both ‘Tuca’ and Cocca recently left their respective roles as manager of Cruz Azul and the Mexico national team with both Alonso and Matosas having been without a club equipment for some time.

‘Chelís’ and Romano

José Luis Sánchez Solá (Chelís) and Rubén Omar Romano are other names being linked with Chivas with both individuals now establishing careers as television analysts.
