Spain’s Jenni Hermoso is the only Liga MX player left at the World Cup
The Spaniard, set to play in the quarter-finals, is the only representative of the Mexican league left at the Women’s World Cup 2023.
The 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand has seen some unexpected results, like Japan thrashing Spain 4-0, but La Roja are in the quarter-finals for the first time ever. Under the orders of Jorge Vilda and with players such as Alexia and Aitana leading on the pitch, the Spanish side are three games away from becoming world champions.
Jenni Hermoso, Spain’s usual finisher, is finding success in her new role as a more withdrawn striker. Now occupying the ‘10′ position for Spain, Jenni is the only Liga MX player left at the World Cup, but she has not lost her goal-scoring touch: in the group stage she scored a double against Zambia and in the round of 16 she managed to get the fifth in a 5-1 win for Spain against Switzerland.
Jenni ready for arguably the biggest game of her carreer
Now, in what might be the biggest challenge of her career, the Pachuca player comes up against The Netherlands for a place in the final four. The Netherlands were the losing finalists in the 2019 edition of the tournament, with the rampant USWNT achieving their second consecutive world triumph.
In the group stages, the Oranje beat Portugal before drawing to the USWNT and thrashing Vietnam, setting them in first place in the standings and consequently coming up against South Africa in the Round of 16. They swept them aside 2-0 and look as threatening as any team to go on and achieve glory on the world stage.
