Swedish press claim the public prosecutor is investigating Mbappé for an alleged rape
According to Swedish media reports, the Real Madrid player is under police investigation for “rape and sexual assault”. He denies the accusations.
The Swedish press claim that Real Madrid’s French striker Kylian Mbappé is being investigated by the police for an alleged rape last week in Stockholm, a story denied by the footballer and his entourage.
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet said on its website that it could confirm that the French player, who was in the Swedish capital last week during the international break, was under investigation in relation to an incident that occurred last Thursday. Meanwhile, Expresen also cited the player as a suspect in the assault in a hotel in Stockholm, adding that the police had seized clothes.
The TV4 channel also reported the matter and stressed that the complainant went to a hospital on Saturday where she reported that she had been the victim of an assault and had named Mbappé as the guilty party.
The Prosecutor’s Office confirmed in a statement following these media reports that an investigation into “a suspected rape in Stockholm” had been opened: “The prosecutor can confirm that the police have received a rape report, according to which the incident took place on October 10, 2024 in a hotel in central Stockholm,” it said, without giving further details.
“The prosecutor is not available to the media and cannot provide further information at this time. When more information is available, a new press release will be sent,” he added.
Kylian Mbappé himself already responded to the news on Monday with a post on his official ‘X’ profile. “FAKE NEWS!!!! It’s becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance,” the striker wrote.
Meanwhile, his entourage sent a short statement to the news agency ‘AFP’ where he remarked that “these accusations are completely false and irresponsible, and their propagation is unacceptable,” according to Aftonbladet. The player’s lawyer will give explanations on TF1 at 8 pm.
