The Best FIFA Football Awards: Dembélé, Luis Enrique, Bonmatí, Wiegman win big

So there we have it. PSG duo Ousmane Dembélé (Best Men's Player) and Luis Enrique (Best Men's Coach), Barcelona playmaker Aitana Bonmatí (Best Women's Player) and England manager Sarina Wiegman (Best Women's Coach) are the big winners at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Doha.

Events this week in Qatar conclude with tomorrow's FIFA Intercontinental Cup final, in which PSG will take on Flamengo, giving them the chance to win a fourth trophy in a remarkable year.

Thanks for joining me, and see you again soon.

Let's have a quick recap of all the award winners before we go anywhere.

That's going to be that for the Best FIFA Football Awards, by the looks of it. Very subtle from Infantino for once.

Dembélé does the double!

It's a Ballon d'Or-The Best double for Ousmane Dembélé. I won't lie, if you'd told me 18 months ago this would happen, I would've arranged an intervention for you.

Ousmane Dembélé wins The Best FIFA Men's Player

Last but not least... The Best FIFA Men's Award!

Bonmatí collects The Best award in Barcelona

Bonmatí collects the award from Jill Ellis in Barcelona, leaning on crutches after breaking her leg. Let's hope she's back in action soon, what a player!

Aitana Bonmatí wins The Best FIFA Women's Player for 2025!

Again, we knew it was coming, didn't we? A third The Best award in a row for Bonmatí, to go with three straight Ballon d'Or awards!

The Best FIFA Women's Player next... presented by Infantino.

Six PSG players in Best FIFA Men's XI

Maybe five-and-a-half with Donnarumma having since moved to Manchester City.

Wingman's incredible achievements

As we said earlier, Wiegman won Euro 2025 with England, three years after leading The Lionesses to victory in the same tournament.

Serena Wiegman wins The Best FIFA Women’s Coach!

For the fifth time, Sarina Wiegman is named The Best FIFA Women's Coach!

Six more winners coming right up... let's go! Coaches first.

Lamine Yamal misses out on Puskas Award

This Lamine Yamal goal for Barcelona against Espanyol was nominated for the Puskas Award, even though he's scored at least five identical goals in his young career. In any case, the young Spaniard didn't end up winning, with Santiago Montiel scooping the award.

Marta nominated for own award!

Incredibly, Brazilian superstar Marta was nominated for the very award that is named after her. Whaaaat? This effort for the Orlando Pride didn't end up winning, but that's quite the achievement.

Donnarumma headlines 'early' The Best award winners

We're now getting a review of the awards that were handed out earlier today. Here's a recap if you missed them earlier:

The Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper

Gianluigi Donnarumma, PSG

Brief from Infantino

Not too bad from Trump's mate so far. Qatar is, obviously, ‘The Best’ country, and he inevitably greeted the public in a thousands languages. Showoff.

Here's 'Johnny'!

The man we've all been waiting for. No, not Donald Trump, but FIFA President Gianni Infantino is inevitably in the house. Let's see if he's less nauseating than he was during the World Cup draw.

It wouldn't be a FIFA event without a montage of some sorts. We're getting clips from all manner of FIFA tournaments, from the U-17 World Cup, to the Beach Soccer World Cup to the over-65s Tiddlywinks Championship.

The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025 underway!

Here we go! Melanie Wingier and the legendary Alessando Del Piero are our hosts for the evening. Looks like we're getting a quick review of the year for starters.

FIFA running late

After the fiasco that was the 2026 World Cup draw, I dread to think what's in store for us today. More car-crash viewing, I'm guessing. We were due to get underway a few minutes ago, but FIFA are keeping us waiting.

Andreas Harlass-Neuking wins the FIFA Fair Play Award!

Before the action gets underway in a few moments, one more award has already been won. Dr. Andreas Harlass-Neuking is the winner of the FIFA Fair Play Award 2025. The team doctor for German side SSV Jahn Regensburg since 1995, Harlass-Neuking resuscitated a fan who had collapsed before the 2.Bundesliga match between Regensburg and Magdeburg.

How the voting works

Quite unusually, FIFA announced the exact date and time of the ceremony just two days in advance, but emphasized the democratic nature of the voting. National team coaches account for 25 percent of the vote, national team captains another 25 percent, journalists 25 percent and fans the final 25 percent through FIFA's official website.

The Best FIFA Women’s Player: past winners

It's six years since we saw an American winner, can Lindsey Heaps end that streak? Probably not, but you never know...

Zakho SC supporters win FIFA Fan Award

Fans of Iraqi team Zakho have won the already decided FIFA Fan Award after their supporters threw thousands of stuffed toys on to the pitch prior to the team's Iraqi Stars League match with Al Hudood on 13 May. They were then collected from the field before the start of the match and donated to children suffering with illnesses.

Who has more The Best FIFA awards? Messi or Ronaldo?

Where are Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi?

You may have been looking at the list of finalists for the men's award and been wondering where on earth Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are? Isn't the Portugal captain on track to score 1,000 goals? Didn't the Argentinian superstar just take Inter Miami to the MLS Cup also single-handedly? Time, sadly, has caught up with them at the very top level, even if they continue to dazzle where they are.

In case you were wondering, Messi has won eight Ballon d'Ors to Ronaldo’s five and beats the Portuguese in 'Best’ awards with three for Messi (2019, 2022, 2023) and two for Ronaldo (2016, 2017). Feel free to have a deep dive.

The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025: date, times, how to watch on TV, stream online

Only 15 minutes to go until The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony gets underway in Doha! In addition to following here, it's also easy to watch along from wherever you may be. Here's Will with the details.

Sarina Wiegman chases fifth Best Coach award

England's Dutch coach Sarina Wiegman has incredibly already won the Best Women's Coach award on four occasions (2017, 2020, 2022, 2023). She'll fancy her chances of another victory after leading England to glory at Euro 2025 last summer.

Luis Enrique tipped for Best Coach award

In 2024-25, PSG won Ligue 1 and the French Cup, which they should have done given their resources. What makes their season a stand-out, however, was their first Champions League victory, achieved thanks to a 5-0 thumping of Inter in the final. They may have lost the final of the FIFA Club World Cup to Chelsea, but that probably won't stop Luis Enrique from winning The Best FIFA Men's Coach award.

The Best FIFA Men’s Coach finalists

Among the awards which have yet to be decided is The Best FIFA Men's Coach. These are our finalists:

Luis Enrique, PSG

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal

Roberto Martinez, Portugal

Hansi Flick, Barcelona

Javier Aguirre, Mexico

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea

Arne Slot, Liverpool

Lizbeth Ovalle wins FIFA Marta Award

And Lizbeth Ovalle of Mexican side Tigres has won the FIFA Marta Award, the women's equivalent, for this outrageous effort against Chivas in March. Could she do it again if she tried? It doesn't matter, she did it once, and that's enough! Sublime stuff!

Independiente's Montiel wins FIFA Puskas Award!

Right, time to gauge opinion. Santiago Montiel of Independiente in Argentina is another one of the ‘early’ winners. He has picked up the FIFA Puskas Award for the supposed best goal of the year, which he scored with this quite ridiculous effort in an Argentinian league game.

What do we think? Have we seen better? If so, tell us on X - @English_AS.

Can Bonmatí complete The Best three-peat?

Barcelona's Aitana Bonmatí, who is currently recovering from a broken leg, is one of 17 nominees for The Best FIFA Women’s Player, having already won the award in 2023 and 2024.

The Barcelona and Spain star is bidding to emulate her hat-trick of wins in the Ballon d’Or Fémenin: In September’s gala in Paris, the 27-year-old scooped France Football’s top women’s prize for a third straight year, ahead of international team-mate Mariona Caldentey.

As is the case with the men, the main women's prize is The Best FIFA Women's Player award. The winner will come from:

Cata Coll, Barcelona

Ann-Katrin Berger, Gotham FC

Christiane Endler, Lyon

Anna Moorhouse, Orlando Pride

Chiamaka Nnadozie, Paris FC and Brighton

Phallon Tullis-Joyce, Manchester United

Ousmane Dembélé double incoming?

Ballon d'Or holder Ousmane Dembélé and PSG head coach Luis Enrique are widely expected to take home the men’s player and coach awards.

PSG’s remarkable year makes the Paris club the clear favorite across multiple categories. Their dominance could extend further, with the club strongly represented in the men’s World XI. In addition to winning Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France, they finally lifted the UEFA Champions League last season. They also reached the final of FIFA’s Club World Cup, organized by the same body that presents The Best awards.

The Best FIFA Men’s Player finalists

That's the goalkeeper award out of the way, but the big one is The Best FIFA Men's Player award, which will be contested by these 11 superstars:

· Pedri, Barcelona

· Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid

· Ousmane Dembele, PSG

The other finalists were:

- David Raya, Arsenal

- Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid

- Wojciech Szczesny, Barcelona

- Alisson Becker, Liverpool

- Emiliano Martinez, Aston Villa

- Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich

The Best FIFA Football Award winners already announced

For some reason, which isn't entirely clear to me or anyone else, it seems, several award winners were already announced hours before the ceremony takes place. We'll recap them in just a moment. What has been left for the event in Doha are the main categories: The Best FIFA Men's Player, The Best FIFA Women's Player, The Best FIFA Men's Coach and The Best FIFA Women's Coach.

We also still don't have The Best FIFA XIs for either the men or the women, so that'll be something else to look out for.

Which awards are handed out at The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025?

This time, it’s basically down to the fact that the latter stages of the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup are currently taking place in the vicinity of the Qatari capital. On Wednesday (tomorrow), PSG play the final against Brazilian club Flamengo, who have already won two games against Mexico’s Cruz Azul and Egyptian side Pyramids this week to reach the showpiece game.
