The date that the new Mexican National Team manager is set to be announced
Guillermo Almada is leading the fight for the job of ‘El Tri’ coach, according to Fox Sports.
The Mexican Soccer Federation is looking for a technical director for the 2026 World Cup. The appointment of the new coach has taken longer than expected, however, there is said to be a date for the candidate who will take the reins of ‘El Tri’ as of this year.
According to information from Fox Sports, Thursday, February 9 will be when the Mexican Federation will reveal who will be the new manager of the project. The decision has taken longer than expected due to the restructuring that took place within the organisation in which a National Team Committee was created, in addition to the fact that Rodrigo Ares de Parga became Director of the National Team.
Many candidates have been considered
In addition to this, the decision has also taken time due to several managers being interviewed for the role. According to Yon de Luisa, President of the Federation, the profile they are looking for is someone who knows the Mexican players inside out, someone who is a proven coach, a winner, and whocan “work in 50 days what a club does with 300″, as he pointed out last Tuesday.
Guillermo Almada takes the lead
According to the same source, Guillermo Almada is the favourite to take over as Mexico manager. The Uruguayan, who is the current coach of Pachuca, is a proven professional in Mexico and has even won a title. The list of candidates also includes Marcelo Bielsa, Miguel Herrera, Diego Cocca and Ignacio Ambriz.
