The Mascherano manager cycle comes to an end in Argentina
Gastón Edul has confirmed that the ‘Jefecito’ will not continue in charge of the Argentina Under-20 National Team.
It is imminent: the Argentine Football Association (AFA) will no longer have Javier Mascherano as coach of the Argentine youth team. As confirmed by the journalist Gastón Edul to the microphones of TyC Sports, the ‘Jefecito’ concludes his time as team boss after the catastrophic performance of the side in the South American Championship.
In the 4 games played by the Albiceleste in the South American Under-20 Championship held in Colombia, Javier Mascherano’s players suffered 3 defeats and only managed a single victory against Peru. As well as this, the side never convinced on the pitch with their playing style, something that worried both the fans and the directors.
More football:
Within the AFA they were clearly not satisfied with the development of young talents, something which comes as a surprise given the enthusiasm caused by Mascherano’s appointment in the lower ranks of the Argentine National Team, where the former Barça and Liverpool player carried out a development plan based on discipline, work ethic and values.
No replacements have yet been approved
Gastón Edul himself confirmed after Mascherano’s dismissal announcement that, for the moment, the AFA has still not proposed a firm candidate to take over, and that they will try to carry out this replacement process in a way that best puts the new manager in a position to succeed.
