The reason Querétaro vs América was postponed
These images show the awful state of the Estadio La Corregidora pitch caused by an earlier event, making it unplayable.
The match between Querétaro and América has been suspended and is awaiting rescheduling due to poor pitch conditions. The challenge is now finding an appropriate slot, with the tight schedule including the revamped Leagues Cup, which involves teams from Liga MX and MLS competing in July and August.
The Liga MX authorities stated that the Matchday 2 game, originally scheduled at Estadio La Corregidora, cannot proceed because the pitch was damaged during a recent concert by Carín León. Images circulating on social media show the pitch in a terrible condition.
“The latest expert reports indicate that the pitch suffered considerable damage for not following the dismantling protocols for an event held at the La Corregidora Stadium on Sunday, June 25,” stated the league.
“Based on this, LIGA BBVA MX reports the decision to reschedule the match in order to safeguard the integrity of the players and the refereeing body, with a date and time to be confirmed.”
Due to the upcoming Leagues Cup, the Liga MX will be suspended after Matchday 3, further delaying the rescheduling of the match. Therefore, the match between Querétaro and América will not take place this Sunday, July 9.
