The start of the European leagues means the return of activity for the Mexican players in Europe. Edson Álvarez and Raúl Jiménez, two household names, could not be with Ajax and Wolves in their opening matches of the 2022-23 season.

Álvarez will miss out due to a suspension from last season, with Ajax giving Keneth Taylor the nod for the match against Fortuna Sittard. The 20-year-old midfielder started in midfield alongside the experienced Daley Blind.

Raúl Jiménez injury

Wolves striker was coming off the back of a good pre-season (two goals) with the Molineux outfit, but picked up an injury in the match against Besiktas. The English club’s medical report reported that the Mexican striker will be out for three to four weeks and therefore, was not part of the squad for the match at Elland Road against Leeds United on Saturday.

Edson Álvarez is expected to get minutes for the match on Sunday 14 August against Groningen.
