Thierry Henry’s advice for Milan and USMNT forward Christian Pulisic
Pulisic started the game against Newcastle on the bench before replacing fellow new signing Samuel Chukwueze in the 61st minute.
Christian Pulisic enjoyed a solid start to life at AC Milan, assisting in pre-season and scoring two goals in the new Serie A campaign against Bologna and Torino.
On Tuesday, Milan welcomed Newcastle to San Siro for their first Champions League group stage game of 2023-24. Pulisic started the game against the Premier League club on the bench before replacing fellow new signing Samuel Chukwueze in the 61st minute.
Henry’s advice for Pulisic
Current France U21 manager and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry spoke about Pulisic on the new CBS Sports show ‘Kickin’ It’.
“As a creative player, if you don’t try to make mistakes, you cannot succeed,” said Henry.
“I can see on the national team, [Pulisic] feels like, ‘I can make mistakes.’ When you play on the big club [team], you play the ball one time and it’s a mistake and the next time you touch it is 15 minutes after.
“People remember every time you touch the ball that you lost it. The international team, he plays with that confidence. We were all creative players, so you have to score. So if you feel like in your head you can’t lose that ball, then you might as well step out of the field and don’t play.”
Pulisic’s last season at Chelsea
In the 2022-23 season with Chelsea, Pulisic made 30 appearances for the west London club, scoring just one goal and registering two assists in 1,012 minutes of game time.
During the same time with the US men’s national team, the 25-year-old scored four goals and provided four assists in just nine matches.
Yunus Musah at Milan
Yunus Musah also made his European debut with Milan in the 0-0 draw with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle on Tuesday. The former Valencia player and current USMNT international replaced Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the 72nd minute.
Milan’s next match
Milan return to Serie A action on Saturday when they welcome Verona to San Siro.
Stefano Pioli’s side currently sit third in Serie A with nine points from their opening four games.
