Thomas Tuchel “will leave” Bayern Munich after Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic departures
Despite pipping Borussia Dortmund to the Bundesliga title, Bayern immediately fired their CEO and sporting director. The manager could be next to go.
Bayern Munich were in celebratory mood on Saturday after taking advantage of a Borussia Dortmund slip-up to win the Bundesliga title for an 11th season in a row. But before the title party had seriously got going, issues behind the scenes took most of the gloss away from their latest on-field achievement. And the belief in Germany is that former Chelsea and PSG boss Thomas Tuchel leave the club just weeks after taking charge.
Kahn and Salihamidzic dismissed minutes after Bundesliga win
A matter of minutes after Bayern had been confirmed as champions, they sacked former players Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic, who had been the club’s CEO and sporting director respectively, with the timing coming as a huge surprise. Both played instrumental roles in installing Tuchel as Julian Nagelsmann’s replacement and many believe their departures will have a knock-on effect.
Tuchel “will have left by Monday”
Former Bayern midfielder Dietmar Hamann has no doubts about what is likely to happen next: “When you treat people like this, you have to ask yourself: do you want to work for this club? I don’t think you can rule out Tuchel leaving soon too. But he’ll leave of his own accord.”
Fellow TV pundit Erik Meijer, a former Liverpool striker, agrees: “I think he’ll have left the club by Monday”. Tuchel’s time at Bayern could come to an abrupt end, which would now not be a huge shock given the events of the las few hours. Although the season has ended with yet another league title, the the headlines have been dominated by a series of clashes between players, coaching stuff and club management.
