After having closed the signing of Manuel Ugarte and with an initial agreement with Milan Skriniar, PSG hope their next new arrival will be Lucas Hernández. According to reports in L’Équipe, the Parisian club, with Luis Campos in charge of operations, have reached a verbal agreement with the French international, and now they must now negotiate with Bayern Munich to push a deal through.

Shortly after the Qatar World Cup, during which Lucas suffered a torn knee ligament, the ex-Atlético Madrid defender’s plan was to renew with Bayern. With a contract in force until June 2024, the Bavarian club offered him a five-year contract extension, taking him to 2029. The idea was to convince him to sign a new deal this summer, but a decision was put on hold - until PSG arrived on the scene.

PSG have long held an interest in the 27-year-old, who was part of France’s World Cup-winning side in 2018. Last summer, Luis Campos made a attempt to sign him but Bayern’s response was resounding - not for sale. Now though, the situation is very different, since his contract will expire in 2024 - it means that the German club will soon be in the difficult situation of having to decide whether to let him go for free next year or sell him now to PSG.

Tightening up the defence

While Presnel Kimpembe is out until November after undergoing surgery on a ruptured Achilles, Luis Campos’ objective is focused on incorporating a left-sided defender to maintain his system of playing three central defenders. Lucas Hernández is the ideal profile. He can play both as a centre-back and as a winger, he is a Champions League winner and would bring competitiveness back to a defence that lacks forcefulness and leadership, with the exception of Ramos, at decisive moments.

In recent days, PSG have intensified negotiations to sign Lucas, who has postponed his renewal with Bayern because he is seduced by the idea of playing in the French capital. The Bavarians, however, will try to make him change his mind, offering him a shorter contract extension of three years. But the agreement between PSG and the player is complete, and the operation could be finalised by the end of next month.
