Tottenham vs Arsenal: as it happened
Professional Footballers Association statement:
Protection for players has been demanded by the PFA, as well as the laws to be "properly enforced".
Eddie is a happy boy this evening!
A derby win just feels different, doesn't it?
Antonio Conte to Sky Sports after the game
"It was difficult to come back after you conceded two goals, especially when we conceded the first goal, we had the possibility to revert the game with Sonny and I think the keeper made a fantastic save.
"Then they scored the second goal and I think that goal could have killed everybody, but not my players because in the second half I think we tried with a big effort to score and to create problems.
"The keeper made a fantastic save today and Arsenal are a difficult opponent now, like Manchester City. Both teams are going to contend the title until the end."
"And today, we played against a strong team but, at the same time, I don't have a great disappointment at the commitment of my players. I think they showed a great desire, a great will to try to come back."
I didn't see [the incident after the game], I only saw the big confusion. If this type of thing has happened, it's not good."
"We have to always show respect in every moment for the opponent, for the players and if this has happened, I don't like it."
Here's the confirmation of the move:
Arteta on Mudryk:
They lost out on the player to Chelsea late last night in a quite incredible hijack from their London rivals.
Arteta talks to Sky Sports
"Determination and courage is great but you have to have the belief and then you have to have the quality to do what we have done today against this team, that's down absolutely to the players."
"We were really aggressive, I think we were really intense in our high press. We won so many duels."
"There were a couple of moments, they're going to create those chances and openings — they're a very dangerous team — but I think, overall, we did a lot of good things today."
Arteta not looking to get involved in fan controversy
And you can't blame him, really. It was a fantastic win from Arsenal that shouldn't be marred by one stupid fan at the end.
The centre-back pairing celebrate Arsenal's win.
We'll forgive the spelling error, Gabriel. Unless you actually mean Lodon.
Remember to go over and say hello to Paul, who's narrating all the laughter and tears in the Spanish Super Cup final between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
Dier post-match TV comments
"We conceded two poor goals,"
"The first one was just a bit unfortunate but I don't think we started too badly.
"We started the game okay, then they got the first goal and I think they were a bit more on top, they had the better chances in the first half."
"Then, second half, we came out and I thought we played really well second half. We could've easily got back into the game, Ramsdale made a lot of good saves."
"We were just missing that goal, if we'd got the first (in the second half) then who knows what happens?"
Ødegaard post-match TV interview
"It was about time (we won away at Tottenham)! It feels amazing, we remember what happened here last year and we wanted a better game, to show a different side and show how much we've improved."
"I think we did that today and I think we all enjoyed the game."
"We're in a good position, no doubt about that. But we have to stay humble, we have to keep working hard."
"We can still improve a lot of things, you see today the difference between the first and second half. We still have some things to improve so we have to keep going and keep pushing."
Ramsdale explains post-match altercation to Sky Sports
That's what I'm there to do, the manager also mentioned the last few north London derbies we haven't kept a clean sheet either so I think that might've spurred me on a little bit."
"The Spurs fans were giving me some (abuse) throughout the second half, I gave a bit back which, to the few people I did do it to, was probably well greeted, sportsmanship-like."
"Then a fan jumped over and gave me a little punch in the back. It's a shame because it's just a game of football at the end of the day."
"Both sets of players tried to bring me away. Thankfully nothing actually happened."
Look at that league table!
What a magical performance from Arsenal and they fire themselves away from City with that win!
While we all wait patiently for the post-match comments from both managers, here is the Real Madrid vs Barcelona live stream, with Paul.
Not quite the North London Derby, buy hey ho.
He had a cracker of a game
He made 7 astonishing saves... and prevented over 2xG!!!
More positive Arsenal stats:
They're not stopping because there are so many of them!
It's all coming together for Arteta at the right moment.
I'm not saying anything, Arsenal fans...
Could they do it?
Match report:
So, with that result, Arsenal go 8 points clear of Manchester City and move one step closer to becoming - dare I say it - Premier League champions.
They are going to take some stopping, and although their second half was more game management that trying to pursue another goal, they had done the hard work in the opening moments of the game, flying ahead into a 0-2 lead.
An own goal from Lloris was set up by a Saka cross before the winger swiped the ball to Ødegaard, who fired into the net to double The Gunners' lead. Arteta will be a happy man as his team pressed crazily in the first half, and knew the right moments to pounce in the second.
As for Spurs, their problems continue, and they are 5 points away from the Champions League places. The first half was terrible from the home side, and although they got back into the game after the break, giving themselves such a mountain to climb against a team that has only lost once all season is not ideal.

A fan has run onto the pitch to start a fight with Ramsdale.
Arteta, the lovely man that he is, drags his furious players away from the trouble and towards their own supporters on the other side, who will presumably be kinder to the Arsenal players than some silly Spurs fan.
And that's all!
FULL TIME!
Tottenham 0-2 Arsenal
Arsenal go 8 points clear at the top of the league!
We're into the last minute. Arsenal continue to run down the clock, as you would.
Nketiah and Ødegaard OFF
Smith-Rowe and Vieira ON
Kane penalised for a nasty push on an Arsenal defender, halting a potential counter for his side.
Ramsdale collects the ball from a high cross and goes tumbling to the floor in a perfect example of time management.
5 minutes added.
Oh my!
Son took too long to play the ball to Perisic... or so he thought.
The South Korean was waiting for the perfect run, but by the time the pass came, Perisic already had his hands in the air, complaining, and not looking at the oncoming ball!
A huge chance missed!
We're into the last minute of normal time.
Some Spurs fans are leaving the stadium.
Arsenal launch a counter attack... straight towards the corner flag.
Someone tell Eddie that's not where the goal is.
Kulusevski and Lenglet OFF
Gil and Davies ON
SPURS GO CLOSE AGAIN!
Kulusevski's shot from distance is deflected through a wall of bodies and bounces awkwardly into the hands of Ramsdale.
Son to take...
into the wall.
A dangerous free-kick is given to Spurs, right on the left corner of the box. Nketiah made contact with Dier.
Zinchenko OFF
Tomiyasu ON
SAVE FROM RAMSDALE!
Kulusevski got past the defender on the right and rifled a low cross into the box that was cleared by the goalkeeper.
Spurs are pushing Arsenal right back
HEUNG MIN SON SHOOTS OVER THE BAR!
SPURS GO SO CLOSE!
Kane let a ball fly over his head and chased it behind the defence. He played the cross into Son but the South Korean's shot went over.
RICHARLISON SHOOTS LOW!
Ramsdale saves!
A thousand headed balls go in and out of the box before it falls to the Brazilian winger, whose shot is saved.
RAMSDALE SAVES!
The goalkeeper dives out to punch the ball away!
Richarlison does well to win a free-kick for Spurs on the right.
Son to cross in.
Into the final 10 minutes. Spurs are still on top.
Martinelli OFF
Tierney ON
Xhaka's thunderous shot flies over.
Free-kick blown for Arsenal right on the edge of the box. Ødegaard danced around 30 challenges before Romero (again) decided to boot him in the leg.
It's right where the box meets the D, on the right.
Perisic and Bissouma ON
Sarr and Sessegnon OFF
Richarlison gets his first touches of the ball after a quick free-kick is taken, but the attack leads to nothing.
Arsenal have the book of time-wasting tricks open and are reading every page.
The Arsenal free-kick is slipped down the channel to Nketiah, but Spurs manage to clear the danger.
This crowd is at boiling point. A goal here and Spurs might have to pay for a new roof.
Dier booked for his swear words. Naughty.
The referee is receiving some very angry words from the Tottenham players after he blows for a light foul on Ødegaard.
Doherty OFF
Richarlison ON
Sessegnon fails to control the ball as Spurs counter and the crowd groan in frustration. They know the clock is ticking.
HUGE SAVE FROM LLORIS!
Nketiah gets the ball over the top from Xhaka as Arsenal counter. Lloris scrambles out and makes a great save.
Martinelli, the cheeky boy, controls the ball with his back. The Spurs fans call him naughty names in response.
Kane gets in space in the box but Gabriel blocks well and stops the shot.
Kulusevski follows up with a lovely bit of skill to beat two defenders. His shot is blocked as well.
Arsenal currently have a back line of 7 players; Spurs are playing left to right, looking for a way in.
Arsenal have dropped off massively in the middle third and are allowing Sarr and Højbjerg to have more time on the ball to find the attackers.
Both teams have had 10 attempts so far during the game.
What a crazy flip of the script we've seen in this half?
Who would've guessed?
Well, considering it's Tottenham, probably everyone.
A heart-in-mouth moment for Spurs as Ødegaard dribbles from where he scored his earlier goal, instead setting up Martinelli on the left to dink his way inside the box.
Spurs clear.
SPURS GO CLOSE AGAIN!
Sessegnon's volley is spooned over the bar from a Kulusevski cross.
Spurs attack with Kulusevski but he messes up his pass and Arsenal clear. That was a great chance to counter 3 vs 3. Wasted.
Play is stopped as Xhaka is down. It was a Romero challenge.
There is a lot of angry shouting between Conte and Xhaka, who won't be on each others' birthday party invite list anymore.
Arsenal break with Martinelli, who plays the ball to Nketiah. The striker hits a low shot and Lloris gets down to save.
Kulusevski whips a shot towards the far post. Flies wide.
Spurs have now had 4 attempted shots, as many as they did in all of the first half.
The atmosphere has started to take a turn and the game has become a bit more fiery. Just what we wanted, right?
RAMSDALE WITH A STUNNING SAVE
Sessegnon was played in behind by Kane and hit a shot low and hard from a tight angle that was heading in. Somehow the goalkeeper got a leg to the ball.
Incredible reflexes...
There's a dangerous edge to Spurs now that we definitely didn't see in the first half.
And I can hear Conte shouting from here. What in incredibly loud man.
KANE FORCES A SAVE!
The striker found space down the middle and took a touch to get the ball out of his feet before launching a ferocious shot towards goal which is well saved again.
Richarlison is warming up
KULUSEVSKI FIRES CLOSE!
A shot! A real shot!
The winger finds space down the right and takes a typically long touch inside before whipping a shot over the bar!
Arsenal raise eyebrows with a cheeky pass through the defensive line from Saka, but it's cut out by Lenglet.
Spurs have started brightly, looking to probe their way through Arsenal.
Here we go for the second half!
The teams are back out for the second half!
It's been 100% Arsenal so far...
Spurs' chances have commanded good saves but they have been a rarity in the game.
It was a beauty
Will Spurs be able to overturn Arsenal's advantage in the second half?
I didn't quite get to say in the commotion at the end, but there was a potential penalty shout right at the death for a Saliba challenge on Hojbjerg. The referee decided not to give it.
So, that was quite the masterclass from Arsenal, who have pinned Spurs back incredibly well all game so far. The home side have had one touch in the box and created only a couple of chances that Ramsdale has saved easily.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have caused Spurs problems on all sides, admittedly mostly from the right with Saka, who has been excellent. It was his hard work that got The Gunners the first goal and he set up the second for Ødegaard.
If things continue as they are, it might look quite messy come the end of the game. But we all know how Spurs like to wake up at half-time...
HALF TIME!
Spurs 0-2 Arsenal
HUGE CHANCE FOR KANE!
And that's what Spurs can do!
Kane gets on the end of a cross from the right and Ransdale gets down well to save the flick on.
Another free kick for Tottenham after Arsenal press them all the way into their own box.
2 minutes added.
Scratch that, the chance is wasted as Ramsdale collects an easy ball.
Kane (who has hardly had a touch all game) wins a free kick on halfway after being fouled by Gabriel.
A chance for Spurs to regroup.
Into the wall.
Ødegaard to take. A perfect position for his left foot...
A hugely dangerous free kick for Arsenal on the right after Saka is fouled by Lenglet...
That's taken the wind out the sails of the fans, who have gone from chanting to mumbling: the polite, British equivalent of whistling.
What a fantastic strike. Saka plays the ball centrally to the Norwegian from the right wing. The midfielder of the month receives it in too much space, opens his body and fires a low shot into the right corner.
0-2
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLAAAZZZZOOOOOOOO
ØDEGAARD!!!!!!!
Romero gets the first booking of the day after he loses his footing and falls into an Arsenal player.
Partey loses the ball in his own half and Sarr takes advantage, trying to start a counter attack with Kane.
Xhaka jumps in and saves the day with a fine tackle.
'Come On You Spurs' rings around the ground in an attempt to encourage Conte's team to take a step up.
It's on Ramsdale in the Arsenal half at the moment. Everyone else is packed in the Spurs side of the pitch.
Arsenal start to play pinball around the Spurs box, causing the home side to drop deeper and deeper...
Saka tries to squirm in between 3 Spurs players but can't quite rearrange his atoms enough to get through the tiny gap and is tackled.
Spurs manage to get through the Arsenal press and think about creating something. The away side get their engines going and run back to defend.
ARSENAL OFF THE POST!
THOMAS PARTEY WHAT A HIT
He struck the volley ferociously and it spun upwards and away from Lloris, striking the post with the power of a small sun.
Arsenal are currently 8 points ahead of second place.
HUGE SAVE FROM LLORIS
Ødegaard hit a left-footed thunderbolt from the right that went low towards goal. Lloris did brilliantly well to get down and save.
Everybody screams as Spurs have more trouble at the back!
The ball came in from the right and the Tottenham players all decided they weren't going to touch it, meaning the ball just sat in front of goal like a lonely lamb. Romero was the first to decide this was a bad idea and he launched the ball into the sky and away from goal. A crazy moment.
HUGE CHANCE FOR SPURS!
Son found space behind the defence and the ball was threaded through beautifully, but Ramsdale got out and spread himself as wide as a condor to stop the shot.
Back underway...
Saka received a ball over the top down the right, took on Sessegnon and played a chipped cross across goal which Hugo Lloris fumbles into his own goal!
What a huge mistake!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
ARRRSENNAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL
HUGO LLORIS OWN GOAL
Partey avoids a booking, a la Casemiro, after a very accidentally-on-purpose handball.
10 touches for Arsenal in the opposition box so far; 0 for Spurs.
But we know they only play football in the second half, so...
CROSS HEADED OVER BY PARTEY!
Romero with a challenge on Nketiah that made me say "ufff" but the Spurs crowd loved it.
It was a tough one. Free kick to Arsenal, 35 yards out.
Martinelli goes down in the box after a dangerous dribble in which he slimed past 3 players. The referee waves away the penalty appeal.
HUGE CHANCE FOR ARSENAL!
Get out your bingo cards, ladies and gentlemen, as Hugo Lloris just made a huge error before pulling off a fabulous save.
His pass out from the back was wayward and the ball fell to Nketiah inside the box, but it took 3 years to drop out of the sky and by that time the goalkeeper could get in a position to save the shot. Close.
After a few scary moments and a quick game of head tennis, the ball is cleared away.
Arsenal's play finds White on the right side near the Spurs box but Sessegnon slides in well to clear the danger.
Arsenal corner.
Sessegnon found space again down the left but his cross was poor and Gabriel cleared easily. That's twice in 5 minutes he's had the whole left side to explore.
Martinelli gets a shot off inside the box but it's well blocked.
A long ball almost finds Kulusevski but there is too much on the pass and it reaches Ramsdale before the attacker can get a touch.
Huge boos break out from the stands as Arsenal get their first touches of the ball. Spurs react to the crowd's emotion and dive into the tackles.
Sessegnon breaks the press and runs down the left but his cross is well blocked. The crowd are well up for this game today, they know its importance.
Spurs keep the ball around the back line in the opening seconds, as Arsenal press high.
The whistle peeps... and we're off!
North London Derby #193 is underway!
Nketiah kicks us off from left to right.
I would like to put on record my delight at seeing two teams in a derby in their home colours. No fluorescent orange or volt green away shirts. Lovely stuff.
Here are the lineups again:
Spurs XI: Lloris; Romero, Dier, Lenglet; Doherty, Sarr, Hojbjerg, Sessegnon; Kulusevski, Son, Kane.
Arsenal XI: Ramsdale, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Partey, Xhaka, Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, Nketiah.
The players are in the tunnel... we're ready to go!
North London Derby stats:
So, we've had 192 North London Derbies over the years, with Arsenal winning 80 and Spurs winning 61.
Arsenal have scored 293 goals, while Spurs are on 256.
Fifteen minute warning!
Just look at all those fans trying to get in...
Arsenal had the same problem earlier in the day at the Emirates Stadium with the WSL game.
Here's a comparison piece between Haaland, who obviously isn't good anymore, and Gabriel Jesus, who probably won't play for Arsenal again.
I'd click on the link just to see the Opta graphic that's been dropped in there, it's delightful.
OK, Spurs fans. Hear me out.
Newcastle have just won against Fulham in the 89th minute, with a goal from Isak.
That means they're now third (38 points), above Manchester United in the altitude sickness territory of the table. A home win tonight against Arsenal would now mean Spurs go 2 points behind Newcastle, on 36.
Arsenal confirm Elneny injury:
Half an hour to go... are you ready?
The referee for the game will be Craig Pawson. He will be assisted by Marc Perry and Scott Ledger, with Darren England as fourth official.
Paul Tierney is the lucky man in charge of VAR for the day. Let's hope he can put his feet up and enjoy the game.
Here's Roddy on why the North London Derby is the biggest and best in the city (and maybe even the whole world). You can argue with him, not me. I'll pass on all the comments.
And right on time, the players have arrived!
The stadium is open and the fans have also started to filter in... the atmosphere is going to surely play a huge part today!
Spurs starting XI:
Lloris
Romero - Dier - Lenglet
Doherty - Sarr - Hojbjerg - Sessegnon
Kulusevski - Kane - Son
Arsenal starting XI:
Ramsdale
White - Saliba - Gabriel - Zinchenko
Partey - Xhaka - Odegaard
Saka - Martinelli - Nketiah
It's not all goals and records and smiley faces for Arsenal fans, however.
In fact, the majority are probably coming to the stadium with grumpy faces, as their number one target this winter, Mykhailo Mudryk, is signing for Chelsea after they hijacked Arsenal's transfer bid with an eleventh hour approach that blew The Gunners' proposal out of the water.
Another stat from the record books...
- Spurs are the team that have lost the most points from a winning position against one team in the history of the Premier League... and that team is Arsenal.
- They have lost 45 points from being in winning positions, against their city rivals, which means this is the derby of the comebacks! In total, they have thrown away leads in 19 of their previous 61 games against Arsenal!
- This fixture is the second highest scoring game in Premier League history (175), behind Arsenal vs. Liverpool (180).
And the answer is...
Emmanuel Adebayor!!
The striker played for Arsenal from 2006 to 2009 and was at Spurs on loan in the 2011-12 season before signing permanently until 2015.
Pub Quiz time!
Q: Who is the only player to have scored for both Tottenham and Arsenal in this fixture?
You have 5 minutes until I reveal the answer, and you can get in touch on Twitter, @English_AS or @j4brennan.
London looking lovely...
Sometimes new stadiums take away the edge of the old one, or completely kill the soul of the club. I have to say, though, the Tottenham Hotspur stadium looks absolutely delightful.
And the weather is lovely. As it always is in England. Never raining.
Here is how things look in the league...
I must admit, things are getting pretty tasty towards the top.
Arsenal, as we can see, have the chance to jump 8 points clear today with a win, thanks to Manchester City and Pep Guardiola no longer care about the Premier League.
Spurs, on the other hand, could overtake Newcastle, if it stays 0-0 between them and Fulham (currently being played now), and Conte's side win today by more than 9 goals. Hey, there's a chance.

Some statistics to warm you up:
- Harry Kane has scored 14 goals against Arsenal, which makes him the highest scoring player in North London derby history.
- Arsenal, this season, currently have the 6th youngest average side ever in the Premier League.
- The Gunners are currently on 44 points, which puts them 6th in the all-time table for points scored at this point in a season. Out of the top ten, which stretches from 49-43 points, only once has a team not gone on to win the league. That team was Liverpool, in 2018-19, when they reached 97 points but came second to Manchester City - remember when they were good? - with 98.
- Arsenal are on an astonishing 11-game unbeaten run; Spurs have lost 5 of their last 11 matches.
Arsenal team news:
As for The Gunners, things don't look too bad. Although Bukayo Saka sent hearts into overdrive as he came off early in the Cup game against Oxford, he is believed to be ready for today.
Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Jesus are the long-term absentees for Arsenal and remain out.
Tottenham team news:
Good news! Dejan Kulusevski is expected to be ready to rock and roll after missing the last three matches with muscular problems.
He is a hugely influential attacking player on the right, and a personal favourite of mine, even though I am definitely not a Spurs fan.
Heading down the chart of probability, Richarlison and Bentancur are doubts while Lucas Moura is still not fit.
Hello, hello!
Welcome everyone to the fantastic evening of Premier League football coming to you from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
If you haven't already guessed by the name of the stadium, the huge picture at the top of the feed and the website you're looking at, it's Tottenham vs Arsenal!
Yes, the North London Derby, one of English football's most exciting games. Yes, really.
It's Joe here and I'll be guiding you through all the laughs and tears we see today.
