U.S. World Cup star takes jab at Trump-Musk beef

The war of words between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, the perceived second most influential man in the United States, has become a major media spectacle.

The dispute – over what Musk calls ingratitude and “unrevealed truths” – is gradually dividing North America, where Latino audiences seem to be paying closer attention than most.

Public figures across various fields have seized the moment to speak out against the former president’s behavior, with some going as far as to criticize both men directly. In contrast to players like Christian Pulisic, who have subtly shown support for Trump, Latino-American athletes such as Alex Bedoya haven’t hesitated to take the opposite stance – even while playing in Major League Soccer and representing the Philadelphia Union.

Bedoya, a Colombian-American, played under Jürgen Klinsmann at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. His last key appearances came around 2018 at the Gold Cup, along with his regular involvement in the 2017 Concacaf qualifiers for Russia 2018.

Bedoya takes a shot

Despite wearing the stars and stripes since 2010, Alex Bedoya couldn’t stay quiet about a clash between two people he believes epitomize conflict.

Leaning into irony, Bedoya took to X to comment on the Musk-Trump drama, pointing out that no one should be surprised the two are locked in a drawn-out spat.

“Are people really surprised that 2 of the most narcissistic, sociopathic, egomaniacs are going through a breakup?” wrote the Philly midfielder, adding laughing emojis for effect.

The former Nantes player received a flurry of replies – some applauding his take, others mocking him by saying, “This is why no one takes you seriously on the USMNT.”
