UEFA leaves Russia out of Euro 2024 qualifiers

UEFA has left Russian out of the Euro 2024 qualifiers, the draw for which is on 9 October in Frankfurt.

UEFA has confirmed the qualification criteria for Euro 2024 and has left Russia out. The draw will be made on 9 October in Frankfurt. The Executive Committee meeting in Hvar, Croatia, approved, among other things, the procedure to be used during the draw. Germany, the host team of the 2024 Euros, have automatically qualified for the finals and will therefore not take part in the qualifying draw.

Russia not included in draw

“All Russian teams are currently suspended following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee on 28 February 2022 which was confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 15 July 2022. Russia is therefore not included in the qualifying draw,” UEFA said.

Fifty-three national associations are involved in the qualifying draw that will distribute the participants into 10 groups, seven groups of five teams and three groups of six teams. The 10 group winners and 10 group runners-up will qualify for the tournament. The remaining three places will be decided through play-offs to be played in March 2024. The 53 participating teams will be ranked according to the overall UEFA Nations League 2022/23 standings and will be divided into seven pots.

If Spain reach the Nations League finals through the two remaining matches in the current break (Switzerland and Portugal), they will already know for sure that they will be seeded in the draw on 9 March in Frankfurt.
