US Soccer agree to equal pay deals for USMNT and USWNT

The United States men’s and women’s national soccer teams came to a new collective bargaining agreement that will run through 2028.

It was a historic day for the US Soccer Federation after it announced that the United States men’s and women’s national teams have come to an “agreement to a new collective bargaining deal that will run through 2028 and achieve equal pay,” including identical payments in World Cup prize money.

It’s equalization of World Cup prize money, identical financial terms, including identical game payments, identical revenue sharing for both teams, so identical in every aspect on that front,” U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone told TODAY on Wednesday morning.

FIFA equalizes World Cup prizes

This agreement means that the players from the men’s and women’s national teams will equally divide the money that is generated by the US Soccer commercially and in events. This is a huge win for the USWNT that was fighting to get equalization in World Cup prize money because even when they won the global title in 2019, the entire squad got only $4 million to share between them.

In terms of comparison, FIFA gave the French men’s national team $38 million after winning the World Cup in 2018, almost ten times as much. It was this gap in prize money in soccer’s biggest event that was a key objective for those fighting in the negotiations.

U.S. Soccer and the USWNT and USMNT players have reset their relationship with these new agreements and are leading us forward to an incredibly exciting new phase of mutual growth and collaboration,” added Cone.
