USNMT Group, opponents and schedule
This is a perfectly planned tune up for the US. They get to play a team that is close to their FIFA ranking and measure just how prepared they are for the group stages of the tournament. Poch and his squad have been placed in Group D, which consists of Australia (27th in FIFA), Paraguay (40th in FIFA), and Turkey (22nd in FIFA). The USMNT are ranked high than the rest of the teams in the group, and should advance with ease through the group stages, but of course nothing is certain. The US teams first game is against Paraguay on June 12, then they play Australia on June 19th, and finally Turkey on the 26th of June.

FIFA Rankings
While the FIFA rankings don't mean everything, they do paint a picture of how the teams are entering this tournament. Senegal are ranked higher than the US after winning six of their last seven matches. They come into today ranked 14th which is two spots above the US team that has lost their last two matches. France is ranked in the top spot, with Spain second, Argentina in third, England in fourth and Portugal fifth.
US soccer responds Poch rumors
Poch didn't do much to calm those rumors, and the federation didn’t quite refute the speculating either. US Soccer CEO JT Batson said, “Even when we first met a couple summers ago, there were lots of other people interested in having Mauricio and [his staff] join,” the chief executive told assembled reporters. “He had standing offers from other places to come, and he wanted to be here. He’s a big believer in what we’re doing at U.S. Soccer, he’s a big believer in soccer in America, and he’s a big believer in this men’s team.” This is a part of the game, and it seems as though the communication from both parties has been good. “Throughout this, Mauricio and team have been incredibly transparent, they’ve been great partners, and we’re, of course, excited about the summer,” he added.
USMNT XI against Senegal
We have our XI from Mauricio Pochettino. Could this be what the XI looks like against Paraguay on June 12th?
Poch leaving before starting?
Is Poch already planning his exit from his post as the national team coach? There are rumors that the Argentine may be negotiating with AC Milan even before the World Cup begins. While the rumors are swirling, Pochettino says he's focused on on the task at hand, and anything else is just a distraction that he is paying no attention to. “It is disrespectful. Because I am here. I am here. I am not going to go away tomorrow. If another club came and said, 'We want you, but you have to start tomorrow.’ I say, ‘Sorry, I committed with the national team.’ Whether it’s the best club in the world. They can give me all the promises. I am not going to change.” said Pochettino.
The list
This is the squad that the Mauricio Pochettino is taking to the World Cup. The headliners are Christian Pulisic, Weston McKinnie and Tyler Adams but it can't just depend on these guys. The midfield is the strength of this side, but defensively there are some liabilities, and with just three forwards there may be some issues creating scoring chances.

Last match: Senegal
The last time Senegal took the pitch was back in the international break. They won both of those matches, the first against Peru in a 2-0 victory and then they beat Gambia 3-1. Abdoulaye Seck scored the first goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time to head into the break up a goal. Ibrahim Mbaye scored right outside of the break but Gambia cut the lead in half with a goal just four minutes later. It was tight until the end but Lamine Camara capped things off with another stoppage time goal to secure the 3-1 win.
Poch after last international break
While the results were a bit worrying, there was signs of life from the USMNT, and Pochettino wasn't as worried as some other people after the match. He said in both matches that the US was playing as good if not better than the European giants but weren’t able to keep up that intensity for all 90 minutes. “It’s not a thing to be concerned about the World Cup. It’s more about to analyze the game. I think it was a game, of course 5-2 is difficult to accept — it’s painful — but at the same time we can take so many positive things. The first half was really good. We played better than Belgium. We created chances to finish the 45 minutes in a positive way but we concede in the last action and there was an impact.”
The boys are back
Not sure if those are hockey jerseys that the USMNT players are wearing with the Stanley Cup Finals right around the corner, but they aren't too bad these get ups. The Carolina Hurricanes did just beat the Montreal Canadians to advance to the Finals last night, so awfully appropriate if that's the case.
Pochettino named Chris Richards to the squad hoping that he would recover from his ankle injury that kept him out for the final few games with his club Crystal Palace. Richards will not be available today either, as he continues to rehab the injury. Our Joe Brennan has more.
Last match: USA
The last international break sparked some cause for concern for Mauricio Pochettino's side. They played a couple of European giants and the results were less than flattering as the US looked a bit out matched over the course of the two matches. They lost 5-2 to Belgium, despite going up a goal to the good in the first half. The equalizer came right before the halftime break and then then Belgian scored four on the US. Then Portugal came to town and didn’t beat the US by that much but they controlled the Americans for 90 minutes as the European Champions from 2016 went on to win 2-0.
