According to information from TUDN and W Deportes, US Soccer and the Mexican FA (FMF) are close to locking down a friendly game between Mexico and the USMNT, which unlike many previous confrontations, will take place in Mexican territory.

The game is earmarked to take place in Guadalajara with the Akron Stadium, home of the Chivas set to open its doors as Mexico begin a new chapter under new head coach Javier Aguirre and his assistant Rafa Márquez.

Start new processes for both selections

The game will mark a new dawn for both the United States and Mexico with El Tri having already found their replacements for the departed Jaime Lozano with Javier ‘El Vasco’ Aguirre back in charge with the national team for a third spell as he looks to prepare his team for the co-hosted 2026 World Cup.

The United States were hoping to enlist former Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp but following ther German rejecting the US Soccer’s overtures, have apparently set their sights on Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry with the French duo the leading contenders to take charge of the USMNT as they set their sights on an impressive 2026 World Cup campaign.

As things stand, an announcement is expected to come before the September friendlies in which the US will face New Zealand and Canada, respectively.
