USA international Gio Reyna could be set to leave Borussia Dortmund
Reyna could make a move in January with one eye on the 2024 Copa América.
Not so long ago Gio Reyna was making headlines week after week, delighting supporters alongside Jude Bellingham for Borussia Dortmund. Bellingham has gone on to become one of the key men at Real Madrid, while Reyna is struggling for game time at Signal Iduna Park.
Dortmund difficulties
According to The Athletic, Dortmund are currently debating what to do with Reyna. Although at just 21 years of age, he is still a promising young player, his continuous injuries have prevented him from having a similar trajectory to the one seen with the English midfielder now at Real Madrid. This season Reyna’s situation has not changed, as he continues to be used in the final stages of games.
Reyna’s potential next move
The player’s contract expires in June 2025 and he could be allowed to leave this January in search of minutes elsewhere. According to the same report, clubs in Spain, England and Italy could begin to sound out the possibility. Serie A sides may take some advantage of his situation after seeing how other American players have performed since moving to Italy.
Copa América
It now remains to be seen where Reyna goes in 2024, but one thing that is for sure is that he will want to be playing at club level with the 2024 Copa América coming up.
