Carlo Ancelotti this week became the Real Madrid coach with the most victories in the Champions League. The Italian has won 42 games out of a total of 56 - including five draws and nine defeats - an impressive 75 per cent success rate.

Ancelotti has won two Champions League titles and reached two semi-finals in his four seasons in Europe’s top club competition with Madrid. His side have also qualified for the last 16 of this year’s edition, with a record of six wins, 16 goals scored and seven conceded. Curiously, in the last six European matches, Los Blancos have been forced to come from behind in three of them: twice against Napoli and once against Union Berlin, on Tuesday.

With the win in Berlin, Ancelotti moved ahead of Miguel Muñoz, who has 41 wins from 71 matches (57.74% success rate) and Vicente del Bosque (34 wins from 60 matches: 56.67%). Behind them are Zinedine Zidane, with 31 wins in 53 matches (58.49%), and José Mourinho, with 24 wins in 36 matches (66.66%).
