The USMNT take on Colombia in a friendly on Saturday in Carson, California, with interim boss Anthony Hudson again in charge.
After suffering a defeat against Serbia in the first of the two friendly matches that the USMNT will play as they kick off their preparation for the 2026 World Cup, interim coach Anthony Hudson has spoken about his role in charge of the team and the foundations he has laid before a new permanent boss comes in to lead the team at the tournament, which will be played on home soil.
In a press conference ahead of Saturday’s game against Colombia, Hudson stated that although he does not know how long he will be in charge of the United States, he is fully committed to the cause and will take the team for as long needed until US Soccer appoint Gregg Berhalter’s replacement.

“My goal is just to keep preparing the team for as long as I’m asked to do it. I’m focusing on doing everything I can to move the team forward, to start preparing them now for the next FIFA window in March,” Hudson explained.
In addition, he highlighted his desire to get the best out of the current crop of USMNT players and build some momentum for the next USMNT coach, who will be in charge for the next four years.
“I’ll continue doing all I can. This is a really, really special team. I know how important this national team is and I want to do all I can to make sure it’s in a good place for whoever comes in, whenever that is.”

When asked about the return of the Copa América to the United States in 2024, Hudson argued that it is a great opportunity for the USMNT to test themselves against the best teams in the Americas, as well as serving as preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
“It’s exciting and it’s something I know the players are looking forward to. It’s going to be amazing for the fans in this country. It’s great news. I think it’s a great way to help soccer grow here in the United States and it’s going to be very exciting for sure.”

With regard to the match against Colombia at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California on Saturday, Hudson highlighted the South Americans’ quality on the ball and their dynamic style of play. An “intense game” and “difficult opponents, just like Serbia”, he said.
“It’s a different test. Colombia are a very good team. They have a lot of good one-v-one players, a lot of quick players, direct players, good on the counterattack. It will be a good match”.
