USMNT line up to face Oman: Gregg Berhalter on Horvath, Tillman and Cremaschi
After a 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan last week the United States’ coach has confirmed that he will make changes to the starting XI on Tuesday.
USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has revealed that he will name a changed starting XI to face Oman on Tuesday, with goalkeeper Ethan Horvath coming in to start.
Berhalter’s first game since returning to the national team set up resulted in a 3-0 win over Uzbekistan, but a full-strength USMNT side flattered to deceive against vastly weaker opposition.
Speaking to reporters in Minnesota, Berhalter confirmed that he will give Horvath a start in place of regular keeper Matt Turner, but added that there will be a familiar look to the starting XI.
“Ethan’s gonna play in goal tomorrow,” he said. “That’s pretty clear. We’re gonna mix up some players, but it will be a very similar lineup to what we saw last time.”
Will Tillman and Cremaschi play for USMNT?
Two of the most exciting call-ups for this USMNT roster are a duo of young midfielders. Malik Tillman (21 years old) and Benjamin Cremaschi (18) have limited experience of first team football but both have impressed for their club sides in 2023.
Last season Tillman starred for Scottish side Rangers while on loan from Bayern Munich and has now moved to Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven. Cremaschi has enjoyed a breakthrough year with Inter Miami and has been one of the principle beneficiaries of the introduction of Lionel Messi.
Neither started against Uzbekistan, but Berhalter hinted that they could be given the opportunity to start against Oman.
“I think [Tillman] is a fantastic player, I really do,” Berhalter said. “That’s why we were so keen to have him commit to the United States a couple years ago.”
“He’ll get an opportunity tomorrow, so we’ll see how he can do. But the coaches are high on him.”
Likewise, Cremaschi’s rapid ascent to the national team has impressed Berhalter and he hopes to give the young Miami midfielder his international debut on Tuesday.
The USMNT coach said of Cremaschi: “It’s been great having him in camp. He’s not going to start the game. We’d love to get him a debut; we just have to see how the substitutions work.”
