USMNT possible lineup against Jamaica in the Nations League
The Stars and Stripes host Jamaica in the return leg of the Nations League quarterfinals.
The United States is back in action, hosting Jamaica (Monday November 18, 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.) with momentum firmly on their side. Following a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the first leg, thanks to Ricardo Pepi’s decisive goal, optimism surrounds Pochettino’s squad.
The new era for the USMNT has begun on a high note, with the majority of key players available and a vibrant atmosphere expected at CITYPARK in St. Louis, Missouri. The “Stars and Stripes” are eager to defend their CONCACAF crown.
Despite the close scoreline in the opening match, where PSV striker Pepi’s 12th international goal proved to be the difference, the U.S. enters as strong favorites to advance to the semifinals. A win or a draw will secure their spot in the Final Four, but the team is careful to guard against complacency.
Who will play for the US against Jamaica?
“We have to respect our opponents and the challenge of playing them twice in four days. For us, it’s about building on the foundation we’ve established and refining the areas where we need to improve,” Weston McKennie stated in the pre-match press conference.
Pochettino has made an immediate impact during his short tenure, boasting a 66.6% win rate aside from a tough outing against Mexico, where a second-string lineup was fielded. His squad appears rejuvenated and determined. Meanwhile, Jamaica—a physically imposing side with several star players—is also fighting for survival in the Gold Cup. Elimination at this stage would be a devastating blow for the Reggae Boyz.
Pochettino is likely to stick with the starting XI that delivered the victory in Kingston. However, injuries to Johnny Cardoso (hamstring) and Aidan Morris (knee) mean Malik Tillman is expected to step in. Tillman has been a standout performer in the Eredivisie under PSV manager Peter Bosz and brings fresh energy to the USMNT midfield.
Ricardo Pepi will once again lead the attack alongside Christian Pulisic. The El Paso native, at just 21 years old, continues to impress, tying the records of legends Landon Donovan and “Captain America” with his 12th goal for the USMNT. Tim Weah’s return from suspension will further strengthen the lineup, allowing Yunus Musah to return to his preferred midfield role.
