USMNT possible starting XI for the game against Mexico

Led by Anthony Hudson, the USA will look to continue their historical dominance over Mexico in Arizona.

Led by Anthony Hudson, the USA will look to continue their historical dominance over Mexico in Arizona.

The day has arrived for another occasion in which the United States and Mexico will go head to head in a new round of the what many call the greatest rivalry in the whole of Concacaf. This time, the two teams will meet on the field at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, with the aim of achieving a victory that will kick off an important period of time in their shared history. Mexico will also be looking to end a horrendous winless run against their closest rivals.

Something that is important to highlight is that both Anthony Hudson and Diego Cocca will have ‘alternative’ squads as the game does not fall under an official FIFA date; both coaches have had to use players from their respective local leagues to form a competitive team (see the two squads here).

Anthony Hudson, interim head coach of the USMNT, will seek his first win as Team USA boss against Mexico and continue the dominance of the side against El Tri. As such, it is expected that the North American coach will have his best footballers starting the game and then he will look to add youth and legs as the game goes on.

One of the players who is likely to be in the starting lineup is AC Milan’s Sergiño Dest, who is the only US national team player currently in Europe to be part of this call-up. Other experienced players like Walker Zimmerman, Sean Johnson and Kellyn Acosta are likely to start the game as well.

It is also expected that, due to the lack of forwards, Hudson will make use of Brandon Vázquez, a player who, in a parallel world, would be playing tonight in a Mexican shirt. However, this is not the case as the FMF did not look to call him up and instead he chose to represent the United States.

The USMNT possible XI against Mexico (1-4-2-3-1)

Goalkeeper: Sean Johnson

Defenders: Aaron Long - Walker Zimmerman - Caleb Wiley - Sergiño Dest.

Midfielders: Kellyn Acosta - Alden Morris - Jesus Ferreira - Cade Cowell - Jordan Morris.

Attackers: Brandon Vázquez.
