ATLÉTICO MADRID

Could Chelsea forward João Félix move from Atlético Madrid to Newcastle?

On loan at Chelsea from Atlético, João Félix could have a solution for his future.

Atlético Madrid will have to deal with an important issue this summer: the future of their forward João Félix.

The idea was that he would succeed with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and later be sold for a fee in the region of €100m after Atlético paid €127m for him in 2019.

After struggling at the Metropolitano under Diego Simeone, the former Benfica man is not performing in his loan spell with a struggling Chelsea side.

João Félix’s future up in the air

On Cadena SER, Pacojó Delgado discussed the player’s situation, explaining that Atlético are worried about João’s poor performances at Chelsea and are doubting whether the Premier League club will want to sign him permanently this summer.

When his loan spell is over, if Chelsea decide against buying him, he could have to return to Simeone’s squad for pre-season training.

Without a sale of €100 for the Portugal international, Atlético’s chances of adding to their squad in the transfer window would be greatly reduced.

They would, however, be now willing to do a deal for a fee in the region of €70m to €80m, thus lowering their initial ambitions.

João Félix has a contract in the Spanish capital until 2027 and Simeone’s contract runs until 2024, but the club is giving priority to the Argentinian coach, who has changed their season around after the 2022 World Cup.

Option for Newcastle

Simeone doesn’t want the forward back either and according to SER Deportivos, Newcastle could go for the 23-year-old this summer.

Money is no object for the Magpies, who are still in the fight to get into the Champions League. They were also interested in him before his loan move to Chelsea was completed.
