Berhalter expected to make at least two changes

The Stars and Stripes once again face their great rivals with the hope of consolidating their status as one of the region’s giants. For that reason, Berhalter is expected to move his pieces a little and field a more aggressive side in search of the title.

One of the big news for tonight’s game will be the return of Sergiño Dest to the starting XI, especially after the problems that Joe Scally had playing in the wing-back position against Jamaica. Another doubt that the coach must have is whether to keep the Richards-Robinson center-back pairing duo, or whether to play Miles Robinson or Tim Ream.

Reyna and Wright vying for a starting place

After saving the day in the semi-final, Reyna and Wright could start Sunday’s final - that could turn out to be the best decision that Berhalter can make. Balogun and Tillman were disappointing against Jamaica, while Reyna and Wright seem to have understood each other perfectly.

Elsewhere, it’s unlikely that the coach will change the team too much for the game against the Mexicans, although another surprise cannot be ruled out, especially as Tyler Adams is back in contention. He could be another of the great novelties on the night.

United States vs Mexico predicted starting lineup

Matt Turner; Sergiño Dest, Tim Ream, Chris Richards, Antonee Robinson; Yunus Musah, Weston McKennie, Gio Reyna, Tim Weah; Christian Pulisic and Haji Wright.

This will be the second time that Mexico and the United States have reached the final in three editions of the competition. In the inaugural edition, in 2019-20, the North Americans lifted the trophy after winning the match 3-2 with goals from Gio Reyna, Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic while Jesús Corona and Diego Laínez were on target for Mexico; it was a night to forget for Andrés Guardado who missed a penalty.

The United States won the second edition of the tournament by beating Canada 2-0 with goals from Chris Richards and Folarin Balogun. Gregg Berhalter’s team will be hoping to make it three wins in a row tonight. The game kicks off at 9:15 pm ET/6:15 pm PT.
