Injuries are plaguing the USMNT and Gregg Berhalter’s first squad since returning; names who are yet declared as fully fit with their club teams may see their places given up to new talent.

After a long period in which he was out due to an ongoing investigation, Gregg Berhalter is about to return as the manager of the USMNT, and it is expected that on August 30 he releases his roster for the upcoming friendlies against Uzbekistan and Oman.

However, Berhalter will have to wait to be able to name and subsequently field his preferred players, as the squad has suffered a huge surge in injuries over recent times, with plenty of players unavailable due to physical issues that have hampered the start of their club seasons.

Doug McIntyre, a FOX Sports analyst, revealed that Banjamin Cremaschi and Drake Callender will be two of the new players that will make it onto Berhalter’s roster for the games next month. The Miami goalkeeper will be selected given the injuries to Sean Johnson (broken hand) and Zack Steffen (knee), as well as the lack of playing time given to Ethan Horvath.

Which players are injured for USMNT?

The other big absentees from Berhalter’s roster are: Cameron Carter-Vickers, who will be at least another two months on the sidelines, and Josh Sargent, who appeared to suffer an injury for his club side, Norwich City, in the English second division.

Finally, ex-Leeds United man and World Cup 2022 USMNT captain, Tyler Adams, who recently made the switch to Premier League side, Bournemouth, after a move to Chelsea fell through at the last minute, is almost ready to take his first steps on a football pitch after undergoing surgery on a hip injury in March last season. Given the length of his absence from first-team football, it is unlikely that Berhalter, who left in December, will call on the defensive midfielder for the upcoming games.

Will Gio Reyna play for USMNT under Gregg Berhalter?

One of, if not the huge, floating question mark that follows Berhalter round like an obedient dog is whether or not he will call up Gio Reyna to the roster. The winger was at the centre of the media storm which saw Berhalter lose his place as head coach and be put under investigation.

Reyna might not feature in the next call up for the USMNT, but it will not be due to Berhalter’s spite, instead it would likely be to avoid pressuring the forward on his return to the squad, as he is also recovering from an injury. Reyna is yet to make his debut in the Bundesliga for the 23/24 season, which covers his potential return with even more cloud.
