Luca de la Torre is having a hard time adjusting to Celta de Vigo and he has yet to make a start in five La Liga appearances. The United States international suffered a grade one fibrillar rupture in the biceps femoris of his left leg and he will be out in recovery for the next three weeks.

Bad timing for Luca

The La Liga side confirmed the news after the United States international underwent medical examination and this put him at risk of missing the upcoming FIFA World Cup that is scheduled to start on 20 November. The good news is that it is not a serious injury and he has time to recover before USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter announces the World Cup squad early next month.

It is expected that Luca de la Torre reaches full fitness by 18 November, two days before the start of the World Cup, and this puts at risk his participation in the campaign. The Celta de Vigo midfielder has nine caps with the United States men’s national team and he started in the last friendly against Japan in the scoreless draw.

The 24-year-old has emerged as a strong replacement in the midfield for the United States and he serves as a backup when Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah are not available. If Luca de la Torre does not reach full fitness in time, Berhalter might call up Cristian Roldan, who is currently in camp with the USMNT.
