USWNT’s Julie Ertz retires from professional soccer: what is her net worth?

The 31-year-old will hang up her boots after Thursday’s friendly against South Africa having won the FIFA Women’s World Cup twice.

Así es la fortuna de Julie Ertz, la histórica defensa que se retira del USWNT

Julie Ertz will go down as one of the best defenders in the history of the USWNT but announced her decision to retire from professional soccer following her country’s disappointing exit from the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The 31-year-old will, however, pull on the US jersey one final time in Thursday’s friendly match against South Africa at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

Ertz’s illustrious USWNT career

Ertz, who spent most of her career with Chicago Red Stars before briefly turning out for Angel City FC earlier this year, will play the last game of an illustrious career that saw her lift the Women’s World Cup in 2015 and 2019, as well as pick up a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Arizona native will earn her 123rd and final cap for the Stars and Stripes in Ohio.

Married to NFL Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz, the one-time midfielder made her debut for the US national team in February 2013. During her international career, she scored 20 goals and incredibly lost only five matches while playing for her country.

US star’s personal fortune

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Ertz has amassed a personal fortune of $3 million, which she has earned thanks to her annual playing salaries, in addition to off-field sponsorships.

Ertz’s change in priority

Ertz has put her decision to retire at a relatively young age down to a shift in her priorities, with family set to be her main focus in the immediate future. Son Madden was born in August 2022, with the player only briefly returning to the professional game in April before deciding she wanted to dedicate more time to her firstborn.

“I think the biggest factor for sure, like anything in this sport takes, is sacrifice. Time with my family is just irreplaceable, especially with where Madden is in his age,” she explained in the build-up to Thursday’s friendly.

The game in Cincinnati kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and you can follow live coverage right here on AS USA.
