VIDEO: Benzema’s foot in bad shape with five stitches

Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema sustained a gnarly cut on his right foot during Wednesay’s game against Rayo Vallecano, but played through the pain and ended up adding a goal to Madrid’s to the 2-1 victory.

The cut itself is actually pretty bad though. Benzema shared photos and videos of the cut, which required five stitches.

Benzema seemingly sustained the cut early in the game when a Vallecano player stomped on his foot. After that happened, he was seen limping and complaining of foot pain, but turned down a substitution, preferring to play through the suffering. Despite the pain, he netted the first goal in the 31st minute.

It’s unclear as of now whether or not the injury will keep Benzema out of either of Madrid’s final two games. Though they technically aren’t fighting for a title (having lost the LaLiga title to Barcelona and been eliminated from the Champions League by Manchester City), there are still two things on the line.

Madrid is in second place in LaLiga, but they’re only a point ahead of rivals Atletico Madrid. Considering they’ve already lost two title chances, they’ll likely want to keep some dignity by remaining in second until the end.

For his part, Benzema is just five goals behind Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski (23) in the hunt for the Pichichi trophy - the award given to LaLiga’s top scorer. Though he could possibly score five in two games, he’d also need Lewandowski to not score more, it may not be worth it to risk further injury.

Madrid will play Sevilla on Saturday, May 27 before closing out the season against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, June 4.
