Villarreal player Alejandro Baena has released a statement on social media after reporting Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde to the police for punching him after The Yellow Submarine’s 2-3 win in LaLiga Santander at the Santiago Bernabéu.

In the statement, which can be read in full below, the player said there are “lies that hurt more than punches” and that his family are suffering “irreparable and unjustifiable damage”.

The full statement is as follows:

Last Saturday I was attacked by a professional colleague after the game against Real Madrid.

After the event, various declarations came to light, presumably made by his entourage, in which it was said that I had wished pain for one of his family members. Since then, as it cannot be any other way, there has been no evidence that proves the facts that I am accused of.

A misfortune was taken advantage of to justify the assault and there are lies that hurt more than punches. The damage that it is doing to my family is irreparable and unjustifiable: threats, insults and even private messages wishing for my family to die.

Yesterday I reported this case to the police. We will allow the law to do its work.

Now, my only objective is to focus on my job and help my club fulfil its objectives.
