‘Welcome to Wrexham’ season two confirmed by Disney+
After the success of season one, Wrexham fans can enjoy a new installment of the series after the confirmation via Disney Plus UK.
Things will never be the same again for the town of Wrexham and for local football side Wrexham AFC after Hollywood pair Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased the club in November of 2020. Since then, the Welsh side has seen heightened levels of interest in everything from media coverage to the success of the Disney+ documentary, sold out merchandise to increased social media activity.
The Hollywood owners endured heartache in their first season as owners as Wrexham finished second in the National League table before losing the play-off semi-final 5–4 to Grimsby Town after extra time. The club also reached the 2022 FA Trophy Final which they lost 1–0 to Bromley at Wembley Stadium.
The highs and lows of their first season in charge delivered excellent content and the FX/Disney Plus documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ was an instant hit, delivering the club a new legion of fans throughout the world with the documentary earning the pair a reported $4million.
Second series confirmed
Following a 3-1 win last weekend over Boreham Wood, the ‘Red Dragons’ mathematically secured promotion to League 2 with the emotion of the occasion leading to emotional scenes as teary eyed Reynolds and McElhenney watched on from the owners VIP box.
Wrexham’s second season under the new owners will be, once again immortalised in the second season of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ after DisneyPlus UK confirmed on Twitter, that the second season (due in 2023), would be ‘wild’.
Release date?
At present, we still don’t know the exact release date of Welcome to Wrexham season with DisneyPlus UK simply stating that it will emerge in ‘2023’. There has been speculation that season two could be released in August this year (2023), given the first episode of the first season aired on 24 August, 2022 with the subsequent 18 episodes getting a staggered weekly release.
